VMPS cabinets

With all the excitement over the coming together of Big B & MLS, there have been a lot of posts commenting on the poor quality of VMPS cabinets.

I have seen some "piano black" and standard oak finishes and agree they weren't the most attractive I've seen.  But, I must say Sal did a wonderful job on my walnut RM-40's.  Yes are veneered "boxes" but they do meet my (and my more picky wife's) criteria for "furniture quality".  I just found out the cabinets for my RM/x have not walnut veneer but inlaid walnut panels... doubt you will see anything like that coming from PRC.  There are some things that can only be done with fine American craftsmenship, although everything comes at a price (usually about 3x what I expect it to cost!)

I think the best thing about the new cabinet source is that production will be reliable, and lower production costs will help Big B keep his business healthy so he can keep making more great speakers.  Plus the spawn of VMPS & AVS will no doubt be exciting ...

Currently RM/X cabinets are running a little over $4000 apiece to make.  Not good for a system with $1500 worth of parts inside and a retail of $9800pr.

I have two choices: jack the price up to $40,000pr, or grit my teeth and sell at the announced price.  I have decided on the latter course, since that was the MSRP at CES and value was one of the reasons we won.  I just hope not too many people buy them.

Perhaps in the near future we will be able to produce the RM/X more quickly, and at a reasonable cost.  In the meantime, get 75% off a $40,000 system!

Did you say $4k A PIECE!?!?!?!?!?!
That means you lose money for every pair you sell.
What a loss leader indeed!
I wish I could affrod them... :(
I'm sure if you charge $5k for them, you'll sell  as many as you can make...
Good luck!
