Duet's SPDIF output modification
« on: 25 Jun 2008, 06:05 pm »
Hello,

Does anyone or any digital expert try or care to modify the Duet's SPDIF output with an interface transformer? I have compared between the stock Duet (RCA replaced) and modded SB3 SPDIF output (Art's modification) sonically but there was absolute NO COMPARISON since I have to crank up the volume control of my Jolida 102B amp to 3:00 o'clock when connecting with the Duet whereas I only need to turn at 10:00 o'clock which is my normal listening position with modified SB3. Any of your information about Duet's modification would be appreciated. Besides I am building the Felix+high quality 9VDC/1.7A switching PS for the Duet to try if it can help to boost up the sound.

Best regards,
Tan

It is the same circuit, except that they put the functions on opposite sides of the chip.

Hi Pat,

Is the chip turned up side down or the functions would be mirrored to the old version SB3? Do you know which legs or after any caps or resistors (if you look from the face of the Duet) I should you use to solder the primary side of the Newava transformer?

Many thanks,
Tan
