technology's always a slippery slope...i don't think it's reasonable for any of us to purchase a television to think of it as anything other than a depreciable asset...
that being said, i think a lot of industry professionals considered the first gen kuro to be the first flat panel display that truly resembled the best crt image quality. every person has their own idea (and rightfully so) for what's reasonably priced, but as long as the quality improves and the price goes down...well that's a win for the consumer regardless

i think something else to consider is that the kuros come much closer to isf calibrated spec fresh out of the box versus a lot of other shipping televisions, which means that the isf calibration itself turns into a great upgrade option (versus a necessity at the time of purchase) when upgraditis hits...and with audiophiles it always does...
