Fertin Acoustic has just introduced a new line of drivers: the model 7.
It's a surroundless driver.

Full range, high sensitivity speakers have always been one of the elements of the Graal Quest of audio fans.
Full range means one driver for all frequencies, perfect phasing of the amplified music impulses and informations with the definite acoustic advantage of a unique source of emission.
High sensitivity allow to drive them with low power single end class A amps which are an other element of the same quest. For the manufacturer high efficiency means strong magnetic motor (field coil motor), small magnetic gap, very light paper diaphragm, suspension, spider and voice coil.
Fertin drivers have been on the market for more than 30 years using this technology.
Along the years many changes have occured, but one thing stays : the Fertin tonality.
The Fertin Model 7 is a carbon spider surroundless driver. Having no surround reduces the
cone break up thus lowering distortion .
It exhibits the lowest Qts of the market.
Audio fans associate low Qts to good drivers because it means high acceleration factor, i.e. ability to reproduce impulses. Music is not sine wave. Music is impulses and non symetrical impulses. Reproducing impulses is a different ability than reproducing sine wave high frequencies.
Infinite baffle, bass reflex, back loaded horn, QWLTand others type of enclosure need specific total Qts which are now generally higher than the Fertin model 7 speakers. Therefore Model 7 should be driven exclusively by current source amps (high internal impedance) to reach proper critical damping at low frequencies.
Time has now come to choose first the speaker and then the amp, not the opposite.
Model 7 is available in various sizes : 5, 6.5, 8, 12, 15 and 18 inches.
