Verity Parsifal Ovation ?
« on: 5 May 2008, 06:27 pm »
I am looking for a replacement for my Dunlavy SC IVs.  One of the things I like about the Dunlavys is how they can fill the room with music giving the sense that the music is everywhere on good recordings.  My room is somewhat to the large size of medium.  The space consistes of a great room that flows into a foyer and dining room.  The overall dimensions of that space are 16' X 30' with a few extra feet in either direction in the dining room.  The ceilings are 13' and 15' high.  There is also a large opening into the breakfast room along the listening seat wall.  One speaker I have considered is the Verity Parsifal Ovations.  My concern is that such a small speaker can fill the room the way the Dunlavys do.  Is there anyone who has experiece with Parsifals in a similar sized room that can comment?

Thanks,

Mike

Verity makes terrific speakers, but I have only heard the Ovation under show conditions.  I suspect your concern may have some validity though.  I replaced my SC-IVA's with Custom LS-9 Line Arrays and found I didn't give up what I loved with the Dun's but gained in several areas such as low end, dynamics, and imaging.

I have to second what arthurs had to say about line arrays.  Although I do not have the LS-9, my speakers are line arrays and there is nothing quite like them for coupling to a larger space fairly evenly throughout.

On another note, I really love some of the photography in arthurs room.  I really struggle to get the lighting right and have only managed it one time.  What he has done looks like magic.

Thanks for the comments.  The LS9 is another speaker on my list.

I have Fidelio in room 14x28 with cathedral ceiling in the middle of the room 18' height.
Sound is amazing.Fidelio fills the room with sound effortlessly.I can imagine what Parsifal would do.
Buy them and enjoy.

Verity Audio's (factory)-listening room is 30 deep by 18 wide and has 11 ceiling.
The Verity Ovation fills that room more than adequate according to Jason Thorpe. (was using a 50w tube amp when he was there)
The ovation is a 25Hz -3db speaker. You can bi-amp it I think also.
When the bass module is facing the rear wall it actually has a higher sensitivity allowing for more loudness out of the speaker.
If one opts for having the woofer facing forwards, you cannot play as loud, but you can put it more close to the wall I reckon.
It is designed to have the woofer primarily facing backwards. I'm sure the Fidelio owner will concur here with these findings.
Also an important note is that the pads on both sides of the aluminum disc between the cabinets needs to compress slightly
before the speaker sounds the best, after putting them together after being moved and such... it will take a little time before that happen, say some hours at most (notwithstanding break in of course...If bought used I mean, give it some hours..)

Thanks for the additional comments.  Sorry I have not responded for a while.  I've been on vacation and just back in town late last night.
