Cornet 2 ready to build
« on: 7 May 2008, 12:02 pm »
Hi everyone!

this morning i received the AES and Digikey orders and bought an aluminum box with very nice handles in a local store.

The questions:

- i'll use Box mounted RCA jacks, not the PC mounted, so i have to be careful to insulate RCA ground from chassis, isn't it??

- the box is "white-PC-horrible-painted" so i planned to buy spray paint. Do i have to get any consideration about kind of paint or something else??

I'll post pictures when i'll get finished or when it starts burning

Most good quality jacks come with plastic or teflon washers just for this purpose.

Any type of paint should do.

Black (in particular) Hammertone spray paint gives a nice finish that hides some marks and bruises.

Good luck in the project - have fun, but remember to stop when you get tired  :nono:

that's true TASKERC,we mustn't work after job

i received the AES and Digikey orders altogether when i was preparing to go to work, i arrived home at 11pm but i decided not to check the PCB, parts etc

but today i've discovered digikey sent me only one Cap 10000uF 10V and Cornet2 needs 3!!!

Thanks!

Small world - they short-shipped me on resistores as well.  They were very quick to rectify the problem, but they use a carrier in canada (Purolator) which is a major PITA - so for $1.50 of parts I had to spend (another) 30 minutes going to a depot to collect the package.  But, at least I ended up with the right components in eth end.

I think everyone who does DIY audio has a tale to tell about not getting all the parts in an order. Seems simple enough but people and machines make mistakes.

It's about one of the best feelings in the world I can think of when you've got your BOM all accounted for and you're ready to fire up the iron.

Only thing better is when you check all your values with the meter and the amp/pre is ready to be fired up.  And then you here sweet sweet music. My C2 worked from jump with no worries. Soldering to a PCB is awesome compared to a P2P setup.

Enjoy and good luck friend.   :green:   :thumb:
