Need some help finding a rare CD
« on: 5 Nov 2003, 09:05 am »
I'm trying to find a very rare disc; last time I posted, Mike G found a disc for me in 30 minutes that I'd been searching for for 10 years!   So, my pride aside, I'm trying to find a copy (or two) of Ruler of the Wasteland by David T. Chastain.  It was originally released on the Shrapnel label, but I don't see it listed now.  Release date was circa '85 or thereabouts.  I had the tape many years back, I'm looking for the CD.

It was never released in the US on CD, but according to Chastain himself, it was available on CD in Japan.  I've tried my usual sources with no luck, but maybe someone here knows somewhere I haven't tried.

Any leads would be helpful!

Thanks,

Rob

Seems to be available on eBay, but not particularly affordable.

http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?GetResult&krd=1&ht=1&sortproperty=metaendsort&query=ruler+of+the+wasteland&from=R8&completedonly=1

Those are completed auctions, but there's one active one currently. Judging by the album cover, I'm guessing this is Smooth Jazz??

Yeah, basically hard core heavy metal.  The disc is pretty f'ing rare, can't be many in existance.  I saw a dude asking $1100 for it, and I assume it's not a misprint.  Still, there must be a copy at a sane price, or at least someone willing to burn me a CD-R from the original disc.

My brother has the cassette tape, but neither one of us has a cassette deck anymore!   We did throw it in a boombox one of us had laying around, but it ain't the same.

Geez, those went a lot cheaper!  I'd certainly pay $50 for it if I had too, but not $1100!   Still, it's encouraging that there were 3 listings there.  I sometimes buy stuff from half.com, but I've never bought on e-bay.  But I may have to start.

Thanks for the heads-up, guys.

Rob...
Are you trying to create an even better disk than Nathan's?

"Rob...

That would be a tall order!   Naw, that's not it...I really do have a lot of heavy metal, but that's one I've been looking for for many years on CD.  I will admit that Nathan has encouraged many "closet headbangers" to come out!  I've certainly been listening to my older stuff more lately.  (I hadn't dusted off the Armored Saint, Raising Fear Cd in awhile.)

I've been looking for White Tiger on CD, too, but Mike Galusha made me a good CD-R of my old LP, so that might hold me over.

Some of my other "guilty pleasure" faves came out a few years ago on CD for the first time.  The band "Hawk" & Piledriver's "Metal Inquisition" are cheeze-metal classics!

Making a sampler for Nathan will be a bit like coming over to Bob Villa's house to do a remodel for him.   It would be tough, as I think even the heavy stuff I listen too is a little more "commercial", or at least "more produced" than the stuff he likes.  Of course, my Golden Age was '85-92, so I suppose I'm into a little older stuff.

I only linked to completed auctions (above) so you could see what the final selling price has been.

I'm pretty sure that one's an LP, Tonto.  I don't really want that; I'd just have to get someone to burn it for me, as I ditched my table.

And if you run the search a little differently, you get more than one auction currently running...
