AUDIOPHILE AUDITION for OCTOBER 2003

AUDIOPHILE AUDITION (http://www.audaud.com) for October boasts 137 SACD, DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and CD reviews. There are 39 Hi-Res format reviews - a new record for the online publication!  The web magazine of audio, music and home theater covers classical, jazz and rock, along with music videos and feature films, and this month also soundtrack CDs. A special feature is a survey of opinions from leading players in the technical side of surround sound reproduction on possible alternatives to the 5.1-channel system developed for home theater - but which they feel is inappropriate for music reproduction in surround. Components reviewed this month are the Fosgate FAP T1 multichannel AV preamp/processor and Tannoy’s Eyris 3 speakers.

AUDIOPHILE AUDITION has been reviewing each month more of the new hi-res formats than any other publication, web or print.  Hi-Res of the Month is Proprius’ SACD reissue of Cantate Domino. One of the top DVD-As is the second release from the Big Phat Band on Silverline. The Popular Songbook collected by folk musicologist Alan Lomax is an amazing find for any audiophile into roots music, and presents many of the original sources being sampled by current artists. Peter Gabriel’s unique soundtrack score for Martin Scorcese, Passion, is a fascinating listen. Its Arabic/Middle Eastern sound ties in well with some of the video DVDs reviewed this month - including Lawrence of Arabia, Dune, Children of Dune, and Nowhere in Africa. The new 3CD set from Bela Fleck, Little Worlds, is raved about in the Jazz section.
