LT-1085 direct replacement for LT-1011?
« on: 10 Mar 2008, 01:41 am »
The data sheets seem to be inaccessible so I'm wondering if anybody knows if an LT-1011 can be replaced by a LT-1085.  This would be in a Welborne SB PSU.  Would there be any changes to the voltage reference resistors?

Jim,

I was able to get the datasheet to pull and the the LT1011 is an 8 pin SOIC voltage comparator and not a regulator, so I can't imagine the LT1085 as a replacement unless Ron was using the TL1011 in some very odd fashion and of course the physical package precludes this.

Are you sure the device in question is the LT1011?

Umm, guess it is not because this definitely a 3 pin regulator in a TO-220 package.

And of course my pdf of the welborne manual for this psu is on the dead computer .

New machine is due Wednesday, then data recovery can begin.

Basically I'm trying to figure out if the 1085 would be a compatible upgrade for whatever's in the Welborne supply.  Maybe Wayne remembers what's in this psu?

Jim,

I believe the Welborne uses a LT-1084, the 3 amp version of the LT-1085.

I think you will find a greater difference in sound if you change out the .01 uF bypass cap.

Wayne,

Thanks.  Yes, that cap, as well as most of the cerafines, as well as the rectifiers, are on the chopping block.  Plus a few other goodies and a larger case and better umbilical/connector.

Still trying to decide between Nichicon Gold and Jensen 4-pole for the main cap bank.

I'll be using this with my SB2 for a while, but eventually this is intended for use with my E-Mu 0404.
