Can I replace the ribbon and the focal with an fst and just palce it where the current ribbon is and can I use the current wiring fron the focal on it And just leave the focal disconnected. The fst would fit in the current ribbon slot with very little adjusment.

thx. :P

The Focal has a much lower crossover frequency than the FST; if you hook up the FST to where the Focal is the diaphragm will stretch and fail.

If you operate the system with the Focal disconnected there will be a large dropout in the treble range.

You can substitute the FST for the current ribbon if there is room.  The FST cutout is 1 3/4" x 3" and is rectangular, and the faceplate is 4" circular.

This is good news. I hav two amps that are 100 wpc 8ohm and 200 on 4 ohm. Should I use a more power amp. they are class d ice module. However leaning towards a sunfire grand 5 channel 200 wpc 8ohm 400 wpc 4 ohm. What do you think?

thx

I use a 100W Son of Ampzilla in a 13x31' room with excellent results.  Higher power is even better.

I'm new to ribbon drivers. I was under the impression that ribbon divers have a limited life span. How long does or would a set of ribbons last?

I think you still can find functioning Blatthaller (the first commercial ribbon speakers) built in the 1930's. Ribbon microphones from the 40's and 50's not only still work, but are highly prized by recording engineers.

There are ribbons, and there are ribbons. Our planar magnetics have proven rugged, reliable and long-lived, 12 years into switching over to this type of transducer.  I'll report back in another 10 years if anything changes.
