LS6 & LS9 offered through AV123

What are you guys planning to use to power you towers of sound ?

I was planning on getting either the upcoming Emotiva 2 channel amp(with the meters) or buying a used Parasound HCA3500. Do You guys think these would be good choices ?

My room is 14'X19' with 7' cieling. Yes , They will be in the basement . I'm on preorder for the LS6's but thinking of moving to the 9's . Can my room handle the 9's or would that be overkill ?

I don't know what all of the customers will be using with them. I am a big tube amp guy myself.

I have had one of Parasound's best amps and it served its purpose. I wouldn't generally call it musical. I did like it better than their newer offerings that I have heard though. I tend to think that are getting a little skimpy with parts quality myself.

I have not heard any of the Emotiva products.

The 7' ceilings might be a problem. The speakers with bases are in the 6'9" to the 6'10" range. So if you only have a coulpe of inches to spare I don't know that you'll have enough room to stand them up.

Put me in the big tube amp camp as well

I think the 7' ceilings will be a definite issue, the 6's will be absolutely fine in your room size...I doubt you'll be wanting for more

Yea we had the 6's dialed in pretty well at the RMAF and it was in a 13' by 19' room. You'll be just fine.

Add me also to the tube camp.

Without hearing the Emotiva 2-ch stuff, I can't say one way or another, will see how you feel after you got them.

I plan to compare my tube and my SS setups once my LSs get here.

Will the LS6s and LS9s come with dual sets of wiring posts for bi-amp capability? I've looked around and haven't seen it mentioned.

I will be powering my LS9s with an Outlaw 7500.

The LS-6's at RMAF were kicking some serious keister with my demo material, Danny's preamp and mono amps from Gary Dodd. The room size was in your range.

My room is 10'Hx16'Wx25'D and going with the LS-9's. Going to power them to start with either the Pass Labs Aleph 2 monoblocks or Dusty's CI Audio D200 monoblocks.

Hey, Kurt.

Odyssey Dual Mono's currently slotted for them. Might go for some of the NEW Emotiva amps down the road to compare. Also, Mark's X-amps, especially if he builds us a monster one (i.e. 500w/ch).

I have tons of other stuff to do this year and I can't afford to drop alot on a good amp.

I heard that Dodd stuff is pricey.

And you think the LS6's will do fine in my room ?

The 6's will do just fine in your room, IMO. They drove mine fine and it's 20x23x10.5

You might want to look into a used Sunfire Signature Stereo or maybe a Bryston 4B-ST at your price range. The Sunfire is a smooth brute that gives you options on current or voltage source to tailor your sound a bit, the Bryston is a beast and leans more towards clean and detailed sounding. I owned both and each are excellent, owned them prior to the 6's and 9's, but from experience each would be a great match depending on your taste, and you can find in your price range in good condition used.

I'll be trying tube, SS and digital on mine, when ever they get here!

I have a feeling I'll be going tube but recently I heard the H2O digital amp and Holy Crap is that little dude sweet!! A very, very smooth amp that sounds excellent. Sunfire amps are a great bargin at the prices they can be had for used. Our theater is driven by Sunfire TG III preamp and Sunfire Theater Grand Signature amp and it rocks! Another companies product you might consider is Consonance, I have a set of their M800SE Mono block tube amps and they are fantastic! At 75 wpc they rock on my Martin Logan Odysseys which are no easy load so they'd drive the LS-6's just fine. I won mine on auction at Audiogon for around half of retail, brand new in the box. Now, if we all can just get our 9's we'd be in heaven, well all of us except the lucky sap Arthur!! He's already got em....

Jack I am using a HCA3500 with the LS-9's. I use a Mini-Max pre, so warmth is not a problem. I have used all tube and all solid state systems and combinations of both on and off for 35 years. I like tubes a lot, but in recent years I have gone toward tube pre's with solid state bottom ends as what I feel is a best compromise of cost and performance.
Also my experience has been that at lower price points, tube amps do not generally do as well at controlling bass as do similar priced solid state amps.
Those tube amps I have listened to that do bass very well tend to get very expensive.
Given what these can do in the bass area, I feel it would be limiting their potential to use a lower priced tube amp; that is if you're looking in the HCA3500 price range for one.
Also, a plus with the HCA 3500 in addition to the bass control is the total lack of any dynamic limitations even when driving the LS-9's at near symphonic levels.
However, if you had a few more $$ to spend, I would go with a McCormack DNA 225 or 500 personally which are warmer sounding amps all on their own.
All of this is of course IMHO.

I'm now looking into the McIntosh stuff . Maybe a MC252 or MC402 . This would however throw my budget right out the window. But hell , You only go around once.

Danny - Hello. Also wondering about LS-9 and room/boundary interactions. I apologize if this has already been answered. Will the LS-9 work in a room with a ceiling height of 7.5 feet? The total room dimensions are 14.5' (w) x 16' (d) x 7.5' (h).

I plan to place the rear of the speakrs about 2' from back wall. The approximate distance from drivers to listening position will be 10'.

Line sources have less ceiling and floor interactions, through most of its range, than other types of speakers so your low ceiling is not an issue.
