Snowmobiling ??
« on: 8 Apr 2008, 01:22 am »
I'm curious, even though the season is over for me, are there any other snowmobilers on the board ??

If so, what have you got and where do you ride ??

For me, been riding since 1974, currently on a Polaris Fusion 600, but about to switch back to Ski-Doo.

Been snowmobiling since 1986. I have an Artic Cat 97 ZR440 fully tricked out with a D&D cycles 700 cc motor and other goodies.
I ride mostly in Tug Hill & Old Forge area, but take longer trips to Montreal,Vermont,New Hamphire, and Maine.
I haven't ridden the last few years. My son is breaking my chops to ride. Hopefully will have a new sled and more time to ride next year, I do miss riding with the guys!

Rode "The Hill" years ago, actually started there in the seventies before anyone new about the place ! now you couldn't pay me to ride there on a weekend , too many wackos !!

FWIW, if your son is 'itching' to ride , DON'T let that opportunity slip by. My wife and I are empty nesters now, but twenty years ago when my two boys were little....man-o-man what great memories !! Now that they are in there late twenties they buy and maintain their own sleds, something to be said for that as well !  LOL !

It's been over 23 years since I've been on a sled, but my best 'air time' is well over 100 ft.

When you roll them, like a three wheeled off road trike, kick away, HARD. :)

I will mention that snowmobiling like that can be very dangerous..and hospitals are quite far away..and difficult to reach, with regards to getting your stupid butt out of the woods (when you've broken that foolish butt).

Here's a link over to the "Asylum" with a pic or two of my sleds (Polaris for now, but heading back to Ski-Doo)

The one sled pic is of mine and my sons sled on Moosehead Lake, Me, in front of Mt Kineo. The other is my other son and his sleds out in Colorado.

Forster creek is just outside Radium BC and Turtle Mountain is near Revelstoke.  Mountain sledding is a real adventure plus technical riding is required to access these bowls.  That spot on Turtle isn't easy to get to, at least not the route we took that day.

If you go make sure you have some basic avalance awareness, transceiver, shovel and probes and know how to use them.  And by all means go with someone who knows the area.
