Hi Mark,

Thanks for the post.  Nearly there, waiting on binding posts and a few of the caps.  Once in inventory, I will formally announce availability.

It's been a long wait, and I appreciate the forbearance and patience of many who are interested in this top shelf design......  thank you Rob, Phil, and quite a few others!

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

Just out of curiosity, what type/brand of caps will be used in the crossover?

And how many caps are there?

I'm asking as the "eternal tweaker"  :green:

I've experimented quite a lot with various types/brands of caps in crossovers and have found that the quality of the caps have a huge impact on sound. For example, when I upgraded the crossovers in the treble/mid section of my Equilibrium speakers some time ago, there was an astonishing improvement in going from the Mundorf Supremes I had previously used, to the Mundorf Supreme Silver/Oil and Silver/Gold caps. No crossover values were changes, just the caps (3 in all), and this took the sound one step further up the ladder to audio nirvana (improved clarity, sound stage etc. etc.).

Obviously, one has to a bit careful with this type of tweaking (as one should always be), because it can change the "voicing" of a speaker. It was not a problem in my case, though (probably also because I stayed with the same brand of caps).

I guess what I'm saying here is that an "Extreme" version of the VSonics may be possible, unless you have already used SOTA components in the crossover

Without having heard the VSonics myself, I'm convinced that this is a truly magnificent speaker - but I'm also convinced that it could be worth creating a non-plus-ultra version of it. OK, I may be jumping the gun, but it's a thought .... aa

Folks,

Product brochure and specs are up as of today!!  FINALLY!!  I'm sorry for long, long delays, BUT it's been worth it.  This is 1 cracker speaker!!

Just click Products|VSonics on the website.

Price is as mentioned before, $AUD1320, around $USD1200.

The first four pairs are accounted for;  I'm presently working to make more kits available.  I will be emailing the first orders tomorrow (Rob, Ron, Phil, Marty, you know who you are!!)

Thank you profusely for the inordinate patience you have all shown.  I just wish there was some way we could give people auditions before they buy - I am presently trying to have a pair built in the US, and I will deliver a pair for auditioning to a local guy who is VERY good on the review process, so it won't be entirely a leap of faith.

Jens (I'll keep it brief, I'm sorry I've not responded until now!!):

Ten caps, eight filmcaps, three inductors, four resistors.  I would not have believed it possible that tuning a crossover could be such a complex, marathon task, but there it is......

Many of the changes with upgraded caps arise not because of improvements in capacitor quality but rather small changes in value - caps are high tolerance components, and small changes in crossovers have profound impact on the sonics.  The VSonics crossovers are very finely assembled, with a high quality LC bridge to measure all components before they are installed.  To do a good job, it's a hand selection, hand assembly scenario.

More later,

Cheers,

Hugh

Thanks Ed!!

All corrected, my apologies, my amp designs are much better than my web editing!

Good reading - I'm delighted with the VSonics, and have just dropped a pair off at a good friend's for a long audition.  We are up against some very good Acoustats!

Cheers,

Hugh
