Although I don't want to date myself, I have this issue and most of the first several years of Harry's rag.

These were the words (along with J Gordon Holt's Stereophile) that helped many learn about "critical listening".

Many think the mag snobby, and it was, but it did make you listen to your gear, to hear grain, glare, compression, stress, as well as liquidity, smoothness, detail, impact, dynamics and all.

To paraphrase Tom Waits, there's nothin' wrong with dating yourself.
At least you know you'll be home when you call yourself up. Take yourself out to some class joint, invite yourself up to your apartment, put some smooth music on the stereo. . . . .of course, you'll probably end up taking advantage of yourself, but just don't be WEIRD about it. :D

... that review brings back memories.

I used to have a double-Advent set-up. In those days, one couldn't do much better for the money. I used a Dyna ST-400 amp and a Crown pre-amp with the Advents.

One evening, when I had the house to myself, I put the Thelma Houston "Pressure Cooker" album (direct to disc) on the turntable; turned the gain on the amp to full; gain on the pre-amp to 12:00 and sat back for a listen. In a short while, just when things were really 'cookin'-- no left channel.

The speaker fuses (2-amp fast blo) saved the speakers; but not before all eight output tansistors in the amp disolved.

After I got my amp fixed, I connected the Advents in series instead of parallel. Lost a little bit of volume potential- but never had any repairs after that.

Sometimes I wish I had never sold that system...

Here I go "dating" myself again, but I "still" have that Thelma Houston album.

My first (and favorite) hi-fi purchase was a set of Advent speakers (not large, or small, or new or whatever-they only made one type of speaker then).  They lasted me until the mid-eighties, but the damage from too many moves plus deteriorated woofers  caused me to consign them to that great speaker heaven in the sky.

Here are some pictures of some very sweet-looking restored Advents (no connection with the seller):

.. neat pics of some originals..

My brother has (2) pair of originals with the walnut veneer. Can't get him to part with 'em though. (can't blame him, really).

He used to run the double pair with a Holman pre; and an SAE 200wpc amp(forget the model- but the thing had big honkin' meters on the front that could be set for average or peak).

Guess I'm showing my age too, a bit.

The only 2-way built today with 32hz response that I know of (in a similar size cabinet) is the Speaker Art Super Clef.

Anybody know of others?
