These units sound impressive and solid from the reviews.

If I ever get the chance, I wouldn't mind giving one a whirl. But that's not going to happen where I live!

As I mentioned earlier, my Bryston dealer would never stock a Torus. However, I notice on the Torus site that there's a '30-day money back guarantee' for items bought directly from Torus.

I suspect the policy would apply to a unit bought through a Bryston dealer? If that's the case it would give me the leverage to order one and if it absolutely did not work for me  I could return it?

If so, I may put one on the same order as my BDA-1.

Hi Keith,

We do not have European versions of Torus yet - need CE ec.

I'm not sure if you meant to answer my question?

I live in Newfoundland and was wondering if a Torus bought through a Bryston dealer would qualify for the '30 day money back guarantee", same as buying from Torus direct.

That way I could try one out and if it did nothing for me, which is unlikely, I know, I could return it to Torus through my Bryston dealer.

So you guys consider us Newfie's European, hey

You probably have me confused with someone else.

Sorry Keith,

I thought you were in Holland.

I am trying to get clarification from Torus as to the online guarantee and whether it applies to dealers as well.

Thanks James

Don't get me wrong, there's a 99.99% chance it won't be returned. But in the absence of being able to get a unit for a demo, it would give a little comfort in case it didn't do what I expected.

Hi Keith,

I checked with Torus and the return guarantee is Just for the on-line direct models.

Thanks James

I know I can easily order it from Torus, but basically I buy a lot of stuff through my dealer (just about all my gear!) and I'd get better pricing from them, that's all.

Thanks for following up.

Hi Keith,

I saw your Alison Kraus comments in another thread and thought I'd bring that over here.  I put an RM10 into my system and listened to "A Living Prayer" from her Lonely Runs Both Ways CD.  I did the comparison with my BCD-1 and Simaudio i-7.  The i-7 was already connected to the Torus RM10, and the BCD-1 was plugged straight into the wall.  When I moved the BCD-1's (stock) power cord to the RM10, the difference was very exciting.  As I posted, before, the blacker background really made me sit up and listen.  Not only do I have the peace of mind that the Torus gives me, but I have the knowledge that my ears heard a difference, immediately.  I've never had a power conditioner/isolator in my system, before, so this is all new, but I'm very pleased.

BTW, I also have an RM20 which is due to be where the RM10 current(!)ly is, but I'm waiting for my floor receptacle to arrive for the 20A circuit.

Hey rengroup

Don't get me wrong, I still have my dealer looking to bring one in for me. However, if an item is available for demo I'll always try it out first. Most (check that, all) stuff that I take home to demo never goes back. I'm sure the difference will be noticable. As well, I also want the protection.

There's nothing better than listening to one of those recordings that 'makes you smile'! I love music and I'll listen to it on anything, but I never tire of listening to a great recording on the Bryston system. Are you familiar with Patty Griffin? Great singer/songwriter. She has a CD called 'Living With Ghosts' on which she does a tune "Let Him Fly' (which was actually covered and made a hit by the Dixie Chicks). Anyway, her version is great. The recording is not polished and made pretty, but it just sounds like a great singer with an acoustic guitar should sound like. It's my favourite recording to listen to and it's a superb song to boot. Part ways through the song you'll hear an ambulance or police car in the background, which I suspect was outside the studio when the song was recorded. My theory always that the producers/engineers always new it was there, but she nailed the song so there was no way they were going to recut it. Oddly enough, about 6 months ago I saw the video on tv and in the video where the sirens can be heard, the scene actually has an ambulance in the video! So, if you are not familiar with her (and you like AKUS), check her out.

But to end off, I think I will get an RM20 once my dealer gets back to me. I sure it won't be going back. Besides, look at the money I'll save on after-market power cords!

Hi Keith,

I know the name Patty Griffin, but I don't know her music.  I tend to listen to a lot of female vocalists, and I've come across her name, before...I'll have to demo some of her music!  :)

If you were close, I'd risk a hernia and bring my Torus over for you to try, but... :(  Good luck getting hooked up through your dealer, and I hope it works well in your system.

Ciao,
Robert

Hi All,

Please see below some comments from one of our customers regarding the Bryston and Torus combination.

“James,

I received the Torus 5 amp box unit yesterday.  I hooked it into my stereo last night.  Immediate improvement in soundstage, detail, smoothness, and clarity.  I do think it is amazing what a clean well designed electrical feed can do.

While I was waiting for the Torus to arrive, I plugged the gear into an old OneAC 2 amp Power Isolator that I dug out of my closet that was left over from a lab I used to run.  I had used it to feed sensitive electrical transducers. Anyway, it cleaned up some of the electrical noise and improved the sound in some ways, but the amp seemed to be power starved (even though the amp readings were within range of the specs for the unit) and seemed to run hotter (135 degrees or so).  The Torus brought down the temp about 10 degrees or so when run hard and 'dramatically' improved the sound.  It amazes me the improvement in clarity and detail.  I see why Bryston always recommended not utilizing existing 'power boxes' that are currently on the market

On another note, I've been using the 10amp box a lot with headphones lately while I'm working at the computer...I've pulled out some old discs that I hadn't listened to in ages...again even with just feeding the headphone amp and CD player a clean sound, I'm amazed at the things I'm hearing that I know I didn't used to hear.

Anyway, thanks again for working with me on the Torus Units.  I appreciate your diligence in getting them to me and love the Bryston/Torus sound.

Thanks Again
Hugh Martin”
