Sqeezebox Duet and ?
« on: 20 Feb 2008, 06:40 pm »
Ok, I have to admit that this may be a silly question but the difference between the Squeezebox and the Duet is the remote control unit?  I just visited their website and came across the duet model units which I have no clue but it seems like a cool idea and convenience is a factor.

Any opinions or advise?  :thumb:

The Duet has no display so you MUST use the new remote or control it from the PC interface.  Guts, don't know 100% for sure yet.  There has been conflicting information.

The new remote is compatible with standard Squeezeboxes though.

The new Duet is really two products in one: the new display-less Squeezebox Receiver and the new Squeezebox Controller (a wifi-enabled remote with colour LCD that works with all Logitech players).

When used with an external DAC the performance of the SB3 and the SBR is identical. Apparently they have the same digital out circuits and have been measured to have *exactly* the same jitter.

A lot of people seem to have great results with an SB3 (or equally SBR) and external DAC e.g. Benchmark, Lavry etc. If you are intending to use the SB3 or SBR specifically as stand-alone I recommend you visit logitech.com to read their specs carefully to see which one suits you (they are not the same).

I think the Duet (Controller+Receiver) is best suited for multi-room setups...additional receivers can be bought for $149 and all controlled via Wi-Fi from the Controller.  For single-room setups, I'd go with the SB3 (or Transporter)...
