Mid bass driver recomendation
« on: 5 Mar 2008, 01:56 am »
Hi all,
I'm contemplating a DIY quasi line array using the DA175.
I am wondering there are any other drivers I should consider in the < $20 category. I am looking at 6.5" or larger 8Ω nominal drivers.
I plan on a 2.5 way configuration using single tweeter. So far the SEAS H1212 is looking to be the best candidate, X-over somewhere between 1.5-1.8k.
The mid bass drivers will be wired in 2 sets of 4 series-parallel, lay-out will be wwWWTWWww or wwwWWTWWw depending on where I put the tweeter.
Obviously this is a budget type array but I think it'll have the "guts" for HT duty.

This Peerless driver looks interesting, has a flat FR curve, and is cheap aa.  It might be just what you need.

This one might actually work better.  http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1741

S Clark,
Thanks :thumb:
That second one looks like a real possibility.

That's a really tough design to optimize - I hope you have measurement capability and crossover software. I've used the earlier version of the DA-175 (MCM 55-1860) and it's a great driver for the $.
