RM-30's in ebony
« on: 24 Jan 2008, 03:14 am »
I ordered my first "NEW" pair of VMPS speakers from Brian last week. He offered to deliver them to my home and set them up for NO CHARGE! These are not the flying V's or the RMX's or 40's, Just the 30's. What a guy! On the flip side, I walked into the local Magnolia's here again, and nobody wanted to talk to me. In the last 3 years have purchased 2 TV's for $6000, A B&W home theater set-up. 3 subs, 3 pairs of speakers etc. Maybe it's my shoes. Anyway, thanks for the help, from those of you owners that steered me to VMPS. I'm licking my chops.

Early B.

Wow, that's fantastic.

When Brian arrives, ask him to come to my house and tweak my Tower II's.

Oh yeah -- leave out the part about me living on the east coast.

PMAT - I'm sure you will enjoy them.

Are these for 2 channel Hi-Fi?

If so, and you have the time, and it's OK with Brian, I would be interested in what exactly Brian does when he sets up your speakers.

PMAT,

Glad to hear that you received great service from Brian.  I ordered a pair of MLS maple RM40s over a year ago and I am still amazed by their sound to this day.  They will definitely hang on to these speakers for many years.  Not suprised to hear that you walked into a local store and nobody even noticed.  Large stores rarely care about customers.  Heck, some of the smaller local store rarely even care.

Enjoy,

John

Absolutely!  Has his visit been scheduled yet?

I'm sure most of us would be very interested in Brian's speaker setup methodology. I'm most interested in his advice and rationale on placement, room tuning, and putty pinching. I'm also interested in the equipment he brings with him, if any, and the reference music he uses.

I suggest e-mailing Brian and inquire about his favorite beverage, and have a couple of 6-packs waiting for him when he arrives.

Please take copius notes and lots of pics, and post them here.

I'll try to do some photos etc, hopefully B doesn't mind. What I really need is conversation tips for non-engineers. So far there is no gregarious flow from the B.

Hipper, 2 channel only for these speakers. It's my favorite pastime now. In Pink Floyd's THE WALL the the lyrics go "13 channels of shit on the TV to choose from". Now it 113 channels of shit. If it's not a hockey game, I'm listening to music.
By the way, B was also so kind as to help me fix my RM-1's again, no fault of the speakers, just cat issues. And I bought those used! Don't let your friends make stupid purchases. Buy from a great dealer, it's worth it.

OK, cool, Brian's in. So has a date been set yet?

BTW PMAT -- prior to the main event, could you give us the dimensions of your room, maybe some pics, and a description of your gear?

Thanks.

I'll do that. We are about a week out on set-up. I need to learn how to post pics. It will be a Rogue tube pre. and B&K ss amp to start with. From there who knows?

Does anyone have pics of OXO boxes they have made or modified beyond the factory boxes?
