I vote for Relaxin with the Miles Davis Quintet and Round About Midnight.

Damn!  I missed one.  I should mention, though, that I'm not embarrassed to have included Amandla.  The fourth track, "Hannibal", is just awesome.  Besides, it features Kenny Garrett!

Interesting question...had me thinking for a a few minutes...throughout the past 3 decades I have gone through many favorite Miles' phases...the last 5 years or so I find myself playing more of his 70's out-there-stuff, the tunes that last 20-30-40 minutes...perhaps 'Get Up with it' would qualify as a favorite album...many of the tunes I really like never came out on original albums, appearing later on in the '80/'90s on compilations, like Directions and Circle in the round.
I also like the 2 Live '75 Japanese concert albums, Agartha/Panagea

I'd have to say it was a tie between Kind of Blue and In A Silent Way. But wait, then there's Round About Midnight and Jack Johnson and Sketches of Spain and .... Oh screw it, I'll have to pass on this poll.

Two additions for this Miles fan:  Miles in Europe and Miles in Tokyo from his sixties period.  Both live dates.  The former for playing but not by much.  The latter is very nearly as good but is superior in sound in my experience.  I think Miles played his best in these settings for reasons you might can imagine.  At least, I think so.  Let these two dates speak for themselves.

Hey!

I think it is impossible for most to choose just one.

But I'm not surprised that "Kind of Blue" gets more vote than other albums. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Yeah Buddy, my answer was just going to be "yes".

Everybody in the audiophile type community knows "Kind of Blue".  That what's great about him, he spanned so many musical areas, you can pick and choose.  I guess I'm partial to "Bitches Brew" and "Sketches" depending on my mood.

...oh, but then there's "In A Silent Way".  Arghh!

I have to agree with you in regards to the "Miles In Tokyo". The "58 Sessions" is another of my favorites. But I think I may have an all new favorite Miles LP as of Christmass. "Live At The Blackhawk". I got the box set for Christmass complete with all the out takes. These LP's just plain cook!! I have another Miles Davis box comming in my Christmass stash (I have no idea what it is yet, but hope it's the Columbia Years!!!). Might also toss in here that I'm getting a third box set for Christmass in Febuary; The Doors! I have the best kids on this planet, and now you know why.

Well, I've always considered Gill Evans a FANTASTIC arranger, so his collaboration with Miles Davis on:
1. Miles Ahead
2. Porgy and Bess
3. Sketches of Spain
These should be required listening for any serious fan of Miles. :aa:

Bitches Brew for the weird stuff, Kind of Blue for the mellower Miles.

Sorceror is my favorite that wasn't mentioned in the poll.
