Upgrade my speakers
« on: 5 Jan 2008, 02:09 pm »
Hi everyone,I'm looking to get rid of my Vandersteen 3a sigs.I have been reading threads about the GR RESEARCH speakers.I can't get my speakers to get loud enough to my liking. My system consists of a Modwright 9.0 preamp,Mccormack 0.5 monoblocks, and a Sony 999es in a 15'by 24' room.Would the OB7 or the CLS 6 ,or even the Alpha work in my system?Any other recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks,Paul

Any of the speakers that you mentioned will work fine with the rest of your gear.

The Alpha's are no longer available though. They were phased out in favor of the new LS-6's and LS-9's.

Where are you located? Maybe we can find you a place to audition some of our speakers.

I live in Aberdeen,Md.I have been listening to a lot of drum tracks and the vandies just don't have the oomph.I also listen to alot of 80's hair metal.

Well I went with the OB7s and hearing them at Dannys I was really impressed! I bought them. Since you are already looking at larger speakers and your music and output tastes are different I Know the LS6s or LS9s will provide any output level you need and more! Hearing the scale and dynamic output capabilities of those firsthand is a unique experience.

If you are still looking at the LS series in May-June time frame, hope to have a pair of LS-9's to demo.

Live about 100 miles south of you in Southern MD.
