Connecting pre and HT amp
« on: 2 Jan 2008, 09:35 pm »
Hi,
I'm having trouble finding how to connect a Home theatre amp to my 2 channel setup
I have a 4bst, can I connect the preamp via xlr balanced and HT amp via unbalanced rca and switch between with switch on rear.
Ideally I would like to connect HT amp to preamp but not sure on where to connect and if this would work :?

Hi Al
I have a Yamaha DSP A1 HT amp
At present I use an Arcam alpha 9 as a pre which has a switch to allow a processor amp to be connected and use volume control on HT amp
I want to get new Preamp, probably BP25.
I am just trying to make sure I can still connect Ht amp with whatever pre I eventually get without having to swap speakers between amps, hope that makes sense ! :)

...the bp25 will be a good choice. i understand your system then as following: bp 25 and 4bst connected via xlr. any processor connected with 4bst via
rca. generally i would say that you can switch between xlr/rca without any damage to the 4bst. but do not forget to switch the gain as you change the input you want. and NEVER change the 'individual mode' into the 'bridged mode' as long as your 4bst runs as a stereo amp. in this case it will cause serious damage i think.

hope this was helpful,

al.

my system: bcd-1, bps26, 4bsst
