Latest VMPS based HT I put together
« on: 13 Dec 2007, 05:01 am »
Here are a few pics of a HT of a client of mine in Guatemala.

Has BCSE RM40s for L&R fronts, with RM30C for the Center.

2 pair of RM1's for the side and rear surrounds, a pair of VSS subs in the front and a LARGER Sub in the rear with 3 1000w amps.

A quite large Screen (over 140") and an In Focus IN82 projector.

It has been a project we started over 5 years ago, and are just finishing.

Here is the seating area.  Notice the RM1's built in to the columns.

Here is the front stage with the RM40s, and VSS subs.

And here you can see the RM30C.

That's a huge room!  Very impressive that just two RM40s and one RM30 can deliver HT approved SPL and dynamics in a room that size without breaking up.

Russ

P.S. Missed you at the party Saturday.  I was looking forward to talking VMPs tweakology with you.

Very impressive.

Thanks, but it was all due to the clients willingness to "go for it".

Just sent the AudioQuest cable package yesterday to finish hooking all of the components up.

He is quite pleased with the sound, even with the temporary wiring to just get some music.

Hi Russ,

Yeah I have been MIA recently being swamped with other issues that have been taking every second of my time.

As soon as I get back we can swap the "tuning and tweaking" things  aa

That has to be a massive room, as the RM40s look small.  If I owned it, though, I'd have to move my seats forward.  They're too far back.

That was one of my thoughts as well, the other being using an acoustically transparent (AT) screen and a third, vertically oriented RM40 as a center channel behind it rather than the RM30 tipped on its side positioned below the screen.

Hi Bob,

I think the room appears larger than it is, but it is a very good size.

I was n't involved in seat positioning, but I think the owner computed it based on current "screen size" to seating distance suggestions.

I didn't get the screen which I beleive will be an over 140+" Stewart (one of the Hawks)

Projector is the new InFocus IN82.

Yeah -- then he could add one of James B's trinaurals to the set up.

Is performace effected by implanting the speakers in the walls?

Is performace effected by implanting the speakers in the walls?

That is never my first choice when placing a speaker, but many compromises seem to crop up in projects like these.

In this case however, the biggest detriment is the convergence, or ability to cause the sound to intersect by toeing the speakers in.  But due to the distance from the speakers this is not as significant, and since you have "multiple" listening positions it cannot be done perfectly for all.

Also the RM40s and possibly the RM30 will be run with the CDWG's off.  The normal focused then of the speaker will cause a pretty good coverage of the listening area.

For all intent and purposes, both are Line Sources from 280hz up. which at those listening distances and dispersions works well.  The properties of the ribbon/planar LS also maintain rather high SPL's at greater distances than typical cone arrangements.

This of course is not designed for maximum 2 channel audiophile listening, nor could it be.

What is not shown is an additional LARGER SUB positioned in the rear of the room behind the listening position, in reverse phase.
