RS8 - matching rear surround speakers?
« on: 1 Mar 2008, 08:23 pm »
Hi Rick,

I'm curious what your thoughts would be on a good match for rear surround speakers for a pair  RS8 arrays?

Thanks,

Where do you plan to locate them? Maximum dimensions?

Thinking at a 45 degree angle from directly behind (if that makes sense) the seating positions and some 10 feet away from the seating positions. I have a ranch basement so I'm mulling over a movie room setup. Would like to keep the surrounds out of the traffic path etc.

I'll measure the basement area tomorrow so I can provide some real specifics.

The area I'm working with is about 22 feet long and 18 feet wide. I would guess the seating position will be around 12 feet from the RS8's and the screen.

Thanks

It really depends on the size of cabinet you want. I would suggest a MTM with dual 5" drivers or a 7" 2-way. You can go larger than that but with wall-mounted speakers it's not often practical.

Would it be possible to do something similar to this except use the Dayton RS drivers and the Fountek? Maybe volume of 1.5 cu ft?

Yes - that can be done.
