DavidS Custom Audio System with pics
« on: 23 Dec 2007, 06:25 pm »
I just received this picture from DavidS, a member here on Audio Circle. He was having some troubles posting the picture so I figured I would put it up and let him comment on the system as he sees fit.

A few of the pieces you see below were custom built by us here at Response Audio. The most obvious piece from the picture is the Bella EXtreme 3205 amplifier (left of the rack). This is the new V-Cap Reference MK II version. Also in the system (shown on the bottom shelf of the rack) is an Audio Note DAC 2.1x Signature that was custom built for David and also incorporates the full Mundorf/V-Cap power supply. The speakers are David Ellis 1801's.
The Audio Note preamp is a true Audio Note manufactured M2.

I will let David take over in regard to the rest of the system and how it sounds.

thanks for posting for me Bill.  I don't have a lot to add other than pretty much all Audio Circle system as other pieces are a Modwright 999ES Sony with tube power supply and squeezebox that includes a Bolder modded power supply.  Only thing not AC is unique xmas bear room treatment system on fireplace mantle.

The Bella Extreme has about 40 hours to date so only 10% on way to Bill's reported 400 hour break-in but best sound I have heard with the Ellis 1801s.  Dave is right they really do like tubes and the Bella has plenty of power to drive the speakers plenty loud and have a good grip on the woofer (50 watts with current tube compliment, think the Ellis' are 85 db efficient).  I'm not very good with the audio speak but the speaker / amp seems like a nice combination blending the Ellis' attention to detail with the Bella's easy and smooth presentation.   My room is small 11 x 12 so more volume than I will ever need and listening nearfield to overcome some of the cube room nasties.

Should also mention that Bill built the Dac 2.1 kit for me in September - this is a wonderful piece full of upgrades that Bill's website outlines.  I am sure this is a solid contributor to the smooth and easy sound I am hearing - takes my Squeezebox to whole new level in terms of being a high quality source - I go back and forth whether I prefer the squeezebox dac combo or the Platinum Modwright.
