Yamamoto HA-02.  This is a SEP amp.  That is Single Ended Pentode amplifier using WE408a tubes.  It is also setup with speaker output for very high efficiency speakers or background listening.

Nice, that's a sweet looking amp. How is it sounding? Have you tried it with various cans or just the AT's?

I heard it with the HD580 and HD650 this weekend and both sounded to me very good.

My primary headphone is the Ultrasone Edition 9 and this is very good.  It also makes my ATH-ANC7 sound better than it supposed to sound.

I have not heard the ATH-W1000 or W5000 with it.

I compared it to my Berning micro-ZOTL and I favor the Yamamoto.  Both are great but the Yamamoto just does some things a little better.  I also compared it to my AT-HA5000 amp which now can be see here for sale since I don't want to keep three amps around.  http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=258434  and I now have sold my ATH-W5000 after getting the Ultrasone Edition 9.

All this and a "pilot lump"!

I remember a highly anticipated amp coming out with a "Vulume" knob a few years ago.

How do you find the 9's compared to Senns or other headphones.
I am still trying to find my perfect headphone (RS1, GS1000, AKG701, Equinoxed Senn 600)

Amp is Mapletree HD2 with NOS Tubes

Cheers
Sunil.

I have not owned the high end Senns but have listened to them at a friends place against my UE9.  His Senn HD650 and 580 were both balanced.  To me I would not have a Senn unless they were balanced.  IMO, the Senn is to slow singled-ended.  His balanced Senns were about as fast my UE9 singled-ended (stock).  Soundstage wise the balanced Senns were all over the place.  He says much wider and he is right but I prefer the precision (location of insturments) of the UE9 better even on soundstage width.   I told him that the balanced Senns sounded like the sound was coming from all over but again I have not lived with them to get a tight feel for them like the UE9s.  I did enjoy listening to his Senns though, they are nice when balanced.

The Senns are a less risky purchase but the UE9s to me are golden and they reveal everything.  The Yamamoto HA-02 is a very good match for the detailed UE9s.  It is also in the Yamamoto sweet spot for impedance being right at 40 ohms across the audio frequency.  If you want to know your music this is the headphone.  But know that on some music that you have enjoyed it will reveal its short comings fast.
