Crossover Question ??
« on: 10 Feb 2008, 02:13 pm »
I am upgrading some caps in my speaker crossovers and have question on the tweeter circuit. I hope this makes sense as I am not well versed in speaker crossovers. The tweeter crossover is separate from the midrange/woofer circuit and has the usual resistor, cap, choke ,resistor and then the final items are a 3 ohm resistor with a 2.5 mfd cap in parallel and one end of this combo goes to the circuit and the other end goes to the + side of the tweeter...What is this for?? Can I "up" the value of the 2.5mfd cap to 3mfd? I found a nice Kimber 3mfd in my parts box... :duh:
Thanks

It sounds like that RC combo is part of the crossover, which sounds like a ladder topology. Anyway, increasing that cap from 2.5 to 3uF amounts to a 20% increase. That sounds like a lot, but without knowing more about the speaker's design and the drivers. . .
