Bugle power supply: voltage regulator chips
« on: 7 Dec 2007, 09:08 pm »
I'm putting together a DigiKey order of parts for my recently purchased Bugle and power supply kits.

The positive voltage regulator U1 is spec'ed as DigiKey part NJM#78M15FA.  Bizarrely, DigiKey has a minimum order of 2000 for that chip (maybe it is a discontinued item?).  Would it be okay if I substituted DigiKey part NJM#7815FA-ND for U1?  The only difference I can see is that it has a current rating of 1.5 amps.  Is it alright if the positive regulator is rated at 1.5 amps while the negative regulator is the spec'ed 500 mA chip?

I'm guessing the 1.5 amp and 500mA ratings are just the max current the chips can handle, so things should be okay, but wanted to double check.

Thanks.

Yes, you can.  Also try a search on "78M15" within digikey.  Look for a TO-220 package that is in stock.  These part numbers change daily.  I can't keep up.
