I own and really like the Canon IS camera. I have the S2 IS and it is a great camera for about $229 at Amazon or possibly much less on sale at BB or CC. Its 5MP with
12x optical
is great.
The S3 IS (6MP) is $295. Can't go wrong with one of them.

The Canon G9 looks nice, but for that form factor and price, it's a small step up to the Nikon D40.
