Modwright 36.5 With Ayre V-5xe?
« on: 19 Nov 2007, 07:08 pm »
Does anyone have experience using the 36.5 with the Ayre V-5xe - either balanced or single-ended? I'm looking for a new preamp, but there aren't any Modwright dealers in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Thanks.

No but I have heard the 36.5 with a pair of Theta Citadel mono-blocks (with an Audio Aero Prestige and Vandy 5As: a system I'm very familiar with) and it was fantastic. I run my 36.5 with tube amps but I was really impressed with it and the SS Citadels. I'm borrowing a pair of Theta Enterprise mono-blocks to try this week: it should make for an interesting comparison.

JL:

Not quite the answer to your question, but nevertheless maybe useful to you.  I have just ordered an LS 36.5 linestage with the PS 36.5 external power supply.  I am currently using an SWL 9.0SE with my vertically biamped Ayre V-3s with great success (check out my system specs under Systems-Timo).  System is very musically satisfying yet accurate in a non-Hi-Fi way.  However, still looking for that elusive non-Hifi "you are there" sound.  I expect to get VERY close with the 36.5 combo in my system.  Hound me in 6 weeks to let you know how this new configuration works.

I own the Enterprise mono amps and they are fantastic!  I always wonder how much better the Citadels are - but at a much higher cost!
