what source to go with
« on: 12 Nov 2007, 02:52 am »
Hi All,

I have the following: music hall cd 25, BP25-DA, 4BSST, OB1 and am using musiflex cables.
I have sold my cd player and am in the market for a new one. I am using the D/A option in the pre amp and
was wondering wich player-transport would be a good match? I dont have alot of option for demo's.
do I go with a nice looking.. shanling ? or am I looking for  something of better Quality? how critical
is it going to be?

Cherrs,
Mark

I understand the importance of the source, what I don’t know for sure is
If I am using an external DAC how Critical is the actual pickup. Am I going to notice a difference between a 2k player vs 3k and if I get a 3k player will it be worth Getting rid of the DAC

If the BCD-1 were avail when I bought the DAC I would not have had this
Dilemma.

You should keep the CD-25 and use it as a transport with the Bryston internal DAC, it’s a nice DAC, don’t get rid of it . All you have to do now is buying a cheap DVD Pioneer (or Sony) and use it as a transport. You have to pay a lot more to get a stand alone CD player that can equal a Bryston DAC performance.

Regards.

I tried a cheaper CD player and used it as a transport, there was absolutely
No comparison, the CD-25 was better.
I am keeping the DAC. I am looking for a transport that will supplement the
DAC and give me the most out of it.
Am I looking for a Phillips vs a Sony transport, or a certain power supply? Any one
Have experience in this set-up? Or am I chasing my tail here?
I sold the CD-25 as I felt it was a weak link and also the oldest component in the system.
I guess I was bit with the upgrade bug.
