I just completed an upgrade to a classic Spica TC-50. It was a nice little speaker.

It is one of the firsts when it comes to the Spica.  Nice way or reviving a cult speaker.  The price is more than reasonable.

The link is dead and I have a chance to pick up a beat up pair for $29.00.  What should I do?

Thanks guys.

Original link is fixed now.

That is a pretty good deal on those. I found them to be not too bad and once upgraded a really nice speaker. Once upgraded, I'd rate them about 1/2 of a notch below our A/V-1.

The A/V-1 tops them in low bass extension and power handling. The Spica woofer won't take much power. The A/V-1 might have a slight edge in the vocal region, and imaging too.

I hope the comparison helps add some perspective.

$175 for the upgrade kit to the Spica.

$229 for an A/V-1 kit.

Thanks Danny,

At $29, the Spica's are cosmetically challenged.  I'm still debating...

Any plans to offer a smallish mini monitor two way kit / speaker using the same tweeter and drive unit utilized in the 0-3 and OB-5 system?  I bet that would be the end all be all in it's class. :thumb:

Windchaser,

You could take a look at the RAW Acoustics RAV 1X, or open baffle OB2X, or OB3X that Danny and Al collaborated on. They use Danny's woofers and Al's ribbon tweeter.

Al's ribbon is real nice, and the open baffle speakers have a small footprint.   :thumb:

Yea, I have had quite a few ask for a matching mini. I may have to do one with the Neo 3 pdr and the new M-130X woofer. I have been holding off a little on doing one because I designed a similar one for Raw Acoustics using their ribbon.

It's pretty top of the class too.

Dayglow beat me to it.

And yes, the open baffle aspect of the OB2X and OB3X really takes it up a notch. Those are really good sounding speakers and easy kits to build.
