Gaming Cheats
« on: 7 Oct 2007, 01:10 pm »
Hey fellas.
My son and I are wondering where to go to find game cheats.
We've been to "Gameskanker", and they have a few. But can always use more...  aa
The consoles we've got are:

XBox360
Gamecube
PlayStation (before #1)
Sega Genesis
Gameboy Advanced

From my limited understanding, cheats are more for PC gaming than for Consoles. With consoles, the multiplayer environment are pretty much controlled by the gaming company or their agents, and cheats are usually network-related where you use your router settings to cheat. For Halo there are some tricks and tips which I have found online by doing google searches. There were some quirks/exploits in Halo 2 Multiplayer that I am aware of, most have been corrected by updates.

For PC games there are many more cheats and actual cheat codes. And multiplayer servers have all kinds of cheats and altered game environments, but I am not familiar with those.

If you type in "cheats" "cheatcodes" in google you will be overwhelmed...

...with pop-ups, worms, trojans, etc.....

Regarding PC vs. Console = I can't remember the last time I played a PC game. I've never played anything on a network and have never played an online multiplayer game (only dial-up available). So I don't know what kind of cheats are available for those.
However, G4TV used to (still may?) have a show called, "Cheat" that focused an ALL forms of gaming. These are the types of cheats I'm familiar with. They're nothing more than combination of button presses at the right time and place that open up more options, more weapons, more cars/tracks .... The list goes on and on. They're pretty cool. You should check them out if you're into console gaming.
The only problem it seems, is that Googling gaming cheats is worse than surfing for porn in regard to the evil things, you know what I mean? That's why I don't surfing for cheats. I'd rather go to somebody I can trust.

Here's an example of an old Nintendo GameCube cheat for my sons Spiderman game:

Just Google "(Name of your game) cheat codes (or cheats, walk-through, etc.)."  You'll find a host of cheats.

There's a lot of cheats in console games :)  Many have them.  Most are published or get figured out.  A few stay mostly secret except to just the developers.  Some are outright bad:   The last place i was working, someone had to fill the DVD up with some data to fill the last remaining gap before completion.  You can't have any blank spaces on a DVD... Microsoft/Sony won't allow it.  The typical thing is to just generate a string of random numbers to fill that gap.

Well... this one guy put an episode of South Park in the remaining gap.  The game shipped like that.  Then it got found out by the public.  Significant badness ensued.

Most console cheats fall into a few categories:  Model swaps, model deforms (big heads, etc), unlimited ammo / weapons, tweaking with the physics simulations 'moon gravity', unlocking hidden characters/items, texture variations, strange sounds and graphics combos (underwater mode), secret levels, different camera treatments...  The list goes on...

Bob, get rid of pop-ups and what not with no-scripts, adblocker on Firefox.  I have it on all my machines.  I get to work, and I am amazed by what the internet looks like without it.
I generally have to do alot of researching to get the right cheats.  I still cannot beat the Puzzle-quest main boss on my PSP.  I made my character to even.  Great game, I will just replay with a different but lopsided character but immensely more powerful.
Good luck

x2.  I use gamefaqs all the time, normally has cheats as well as FAQs for the game, many of them very specific.  For example a FPS may have cheats for unlimited ammo or invincibility, info on the best guns, info on how to defeat each enemy, walkthroughs on each level, and sometimes maps of where everything is.  Very useful site.

Now we're talking.  :thumb:

Slug and Gaara, Thanks (twice) for the recommendation of 'gamefaqs', I'll check that out.

Woodsea, I've got too much crap going on with my PC and HT room (trying to 'converge' them), not sure I want to experiment with new browsers/email addresses mucking that up right now. AOL seems to work very well for the vast majority of what I surf, but gets weak in the knees when it comes to surfing the really bad stuff for some reason. I know that sounds like a bunch of pussy excuses (and it is....) but I've done more things with PC's recently than I ever have and am getting tired of 'working' on my toys....You know. The damn things should be fun but they've kicked my butt recently.

*3.  If it's not at gamefaqs, it's a 90% chance it's not out there.

Don't forget to check out the gamefaqs forums for each game.  They're a real bear to navigate but there're goodies in there.

Bob,
Firefox is so easy.  Do you have a PC?  It is no matter because this is what you do to set up your browser.  Download the appropriate firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Then install and go to tools in firefox and click on add-ons.
Firefox requires you to restart after every add-on and theme.  I am lazy, I haven't always done that.

These are the ones I have found to be very good or cannot live without cool
Adblock plus  Blocks poopy adds
Colorful tabs  Purty colors if you multitask
Firefox Companion for Ebay Makes you go into the red and hide it when you want to go to black
Foxmarks Bookmark Synchro Go to any of your computers and have all your favorites
Google toolbar for firefox  They are taking over, but if you don't give them any personal info, it's cool
iMacros for firefox  ]This one is Mr. Roboto, it will automate your frequent browser hmmm...work
MR Tech local install  Once installed an easier Firefox to lube and console to your hearts content
Time Tracker  I spend to much time on the internet so this just reminds me constantly
TrackMeNot   Don't let them track you while you use any search engine...serpentine
Yahoo!mail notifier  If you have AOL you probably don't have Yahoo, the googlebar will check your gmail
