Well this album sounds fantastic on my MacBook Pro.  I'm talking 3' diameter sound stage!   :thumb:

I will definitely buy the real thing when it becomes available.  Not going to spend for a pre-order though -- will wait for the normal CD release in "early '08".

If I like it enough I"ll have to get a commercial CD and see how much of a difference there is... right now its not great.  It was a tiny 43 mb download  :nono:

I think thats a great strategy for bands to take... if you cut out the record labels and the artists just ask for a donation, then they can sell FAR more albums, to the point where a small donation might make you more $$$ than a major label on an album release. Also, my music collection would be HUGE   :icon_twisted:. They should offer FLAC for a small surcharge though.

I wonder if other bands will follow their lead?

I shelled out for the box set too, but it's nice to have the mp3's to listen to now!

As a vinyl hater, I could have shelled out for the box too if the dollar didn't suck so hard.  Over $80 is steep.  Special thanks to our United States legislative, and administrative branches for pricing me out of the box, and my next car.

I bought the box, because I probably would have bought the CD and LP versions anyway, I have all the others on both.  $80 was steep but our government isn't to blame for the weak dollar, btw, its the US consumer that is to blame....but that is another topic altogether.

I feel for those that didn't want the LP but was forced to buy it to get the CD...that isn't a great thing IMO for the average fan.

The box set gets you the LP's, the cd, a bonus cd, and a book of stanley's artwork. That won't be the only way to get the cd though, I'm sure eventually it'll be available by itself. Actually I'm sure it will, because rh are fanatics about sound quality and there's no way they'd leave most of their fans with crappy mp3's.

Can you help me understand this from an economics standpoint?

Why is the biggest Radiohead fanatic chiming in so late you might ask? Because he's been busy listening to In Rainbows! :thumb: I love the new album, it's tough to be a megafan, because your expectations are beyond what most would call ridiculous. A band can only reinvent themselves and music so many times. The last major "breakthrough" was Kid A/Amnesiac IMO.  I guess now I'll have to settle for them revolutionizing the consumer market by cutting out every middleman imaginable.

On the album- overall sparse yet lush.  Thoms vocals are clean and soulcutting. Drums are interesting in that throughout the album inthat they seem strangely detached, not quite "with-it" so to speak.  The effect is almost like your heart skipping a beat somewhat arrhythmic at times, I don't know what I'm talking about. This is the "Radiohead of Olde" lots of meandering repetitive guitar all the digital sound effect stuff is there, but it doesn't rule like on KidA/Amnesiac. Any way a solid album.  I place it better than Hail to the Thief, on par with Amnesiac (as far as how cohesive the album is not in sound) but can't hold a candle to anything earlier including Kid A, OK computer, and The Bends.  Give it time though my opinion will undeniably change.

By the way I paid for the Album which is appro. $82. That is very steep for the non-crazed-fan and even for the foaming-at-the-mouth-Radiohead-worshipping-fan-boy that is a big pill to swallow. I take solace in the fact that I get bonus tracks, CD's and LP's

On another topic, how does Radio air play work when you don't have royalties involved? I suppose they just play the songs and owe 0 in royalties? I'm sure Radio stations love that.
