iMod and Rolls Bellari VP129 phono stage
« on: 15 Oct 2007, 04:14 am »
Hi all,

For a few months, I'm going to be listening only to headphones, through the headphone jack on a Bellari VP129 phono stage.  A strange question: can use the phono input on this thing for the iMod?  I know it sounds weird, but the Bellari only provides 30db of gain, and the iMod is quieter than most line level sources at any given volume setting anyway.  Perhaps this would work if I keep the volume at a very low setting...  What do you think?  Is this dangerous to try, or should I just experiment?

Many thanks.

There's more to a phono stage than gain - specifically it also applies the RIAA equalization curve. So I would say the short answer is no... :(

Hi lousyreeds1,

JohnR is correct... don't feed the output of your iMod to feed a phono input.  A phono stage applies RIAA equalization, and unless you are feeding the phonostage from a turntable, it will not sound right.
