I own a pair of Magnepan SMGa's and I'm pretty much sold on the Jolida line of amps. Question is, should I go with the JD 1501A or the JD 302B. Which amplifier will best handle the 4 ohm load of the maggies?

I cant speak for the 302, but with my 202 -which BTW I love the sound for the money or not- I have plenty of power for my old polk monitor10s. It is not by any means excessive power but it does well for a medium size room. They are 89db efficiency, and running the volume at half is quite enough. I understand the maggies need a bit more than the norm but if you do the math you can guestimate whether or not you are in the ballpark. If  the 40 tube w/ch of the 202 is decent for an 89db speaker  then the 50 tube w/ch of the 302 would be good for ...Is it not twice the power that brings it up 3db? If this is correct we could assume that since most maggies are 85 or 86db that it would leave the maggies a little hungry?............I don't know for sure that this is all applicable, I'm trying to give an educated guess. What my MO is, is that I love the simplicity of the straight tubes and love the sound of my 202 so would like to recommend the 302 to you. I would like to think that the 302 would work for you but you may end up wanting more power in actuality. Look at www.verastarr.com He has great prices and may offer a satisfaction guarantee. I know he gives simple tube and damping upgrades to most if not all jolida products out the door for about or less than normal retail.

there amps are redesigned jolida's and the work was done by modwright.

he has a very good reputation and these amps have been getting very good reviews.
