Info on John Blaine, our recording engineer...
« on: 21 Sep 2007, 04:44 pm »
Hi guys,

I received word that John Blaine is at Barnes Hospital, and has suffered a massive heart attack. He is in Queeny Towers, Cardiac IC Unit on the 8th floor, room 8212, and can have visitors. It's my understanding that his situation is grave, but he's in good spirits and has a clear head. Steve and I are going to visit tomorrow. I just wanted you all to know.

Wow.  I read that he had gone in for heart surgery.  Did this happen while he was recovering?

What are visiting hours there if you know.

I'll try to get more specific info on what happened exactly. John called me while he was waiting to get taken to the hospital, as he was wanting to get himself checked out before anything really bad happened. I was surprised to hear that he'd had a heart attack. Actually, I'm hoping that the info is not entirely accurate. I'm not sure what the visiting hours are, but Steve and I are aiming to get there a little before the lunch hour. I'll post the hours later.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it down to see him this weekend. Please be sure and post how he's doing and let him know Laura and I are keeping him in our thoughts.

I haven't been keeping up with the boards as of late and this is really bad news. Sorry to hear this. Tell John that he is in my prayers.

I found out tonight that a couple of symphony members did make it out to see John earlier today, and that they were pleased to find him quite alert and conversational. He was in good spirits, and visited with them for about an hour. He seemed to be doing well, and appeared to be very much like himself. This is good news. I'll report on my visit with him tomorrow.

Steve and I went down to see John earlier today as planned. For the most part he looked fairly good, and seemed to have plenty of energy. I thought he sounded much better than he did on the phone a few days ago. Steve agreed. We visited with him for about an hour. Oops, I forgot to check on what the visiting hours are, but Barnes can provide that info if you call them. John was glad to see us, and I'm sure that he would appreciate any visits from GAS members. I told him all the messages of good will that had been coming in on this thread.

John is restricted to lying down on his back for now, and he's not supposed to move around at all. He's not too comfortable with that, and I'm sure that I wouldn't be either. Even after the visit, I'm still not sure of all the details in terms of what happened to him. The attendants were not able to give us any direct information, since we are not family. He's had atleast one operation, which was a procedure to insert some tubes. So, at this point, I'm going to say that I don't know if  he's had a heart attack or not. He's getting the best of care at Barnes, and has a nurse right there with him at all times. Our conversation with him went well for the most part, but there were brief times when he did not appear very lucid. I'm confident that he'll recover and be back home eventually.

Went in to visit John today at Barnes--took him some audio magazines (of course). He looks good, is in fine spirits and anxious to begin his recovery physical therapy. Due to his previous conditions, recovery will be slow but John certainly has the desire and support of his friends to help him along. He was moved out of intensive care  yesterday to a less critical care room #8115. His room phone number is 314-747-9177. Visitor hours are 11am-9pm. He asks that anyone stopping in please call him first to make sure he isn't having scheduled tests during your visit.

Wonderful!! I'll give him a call and head back over for a visit in the next day or so. Of course, I'll have to tear myself away from all the new HD channels that Directv just added...hah hah.
