Microphone cable pretty darn good for IC'RCA's

I am just using some cheap Dayton stuff from Parts Express with crappy RCA connectors... The imagining and impact of everything went up significantly from RG6, Cat, RG59 (29598 or whatever Jon Risch recommended). For how cheap it is you really can not go wrong. When I say impact of everything, I mean I can feel everything that happens on the drums, there is just this extra extension of everything, realism that hits you in a live show and can give you shivers.

If anyone wants to try some cheap DIY cable try some microphone cable! I just used one inside wire for the signal and the outside for the negative. Seriously save yourself money over any RG6/59 or Cat5 type stuff.

Yes, that has been my experience too! The Belden 1800F (also used for microphone application) and 8241F are two examples I have tried with great success. One caveat though, try not to solder if you can help it. Crimping the cables with Canare connectors are all you need. While I still use silver for critical sources (DAC to preamp), these cables worked better with my other sources (tape, tuner, tv) than they did with some expensive cables.

Try some http://www.canare.com/index.cfm?objectid=C86D2270-3048-7098-AFFFB874C85CFD00

I've made several ICs from it with a few different RCAs - They always sound great.

I have a box of Eichmans waiting...

Good info! How I wish all cable manufacturers would follow Canare and Belden's lead of providing comprehensive technical information regarding capacitance, awg, etc.

The Canare is my choice too.   Great stuff for a good price.

I offer a kit if anyone needs some hand holding.   There are other good pro-audio cables but Canare gets the jacket, look/feel down better than Belden or Mogami.   The price difference between them is minimal.

For RCAs I'm a Cardas fan.

I am sure the DIYCable cable kit is real nice... I spent a lot less, and am still really impressed. I would rather have the DIYCable kit, I just want to point out that you can do it for as little as possible, get good cables, for main or second system, whatever.

Also do you realize that Canare and Beldin are not catering to audiophiles... They sell stuff in bulk for people that setup concerts and industrial stuff that is super sensitive, has to be used in all sorts of conditions, etc... I mean the reason for them having all the specifics is pretty extensive beyond our little world!

I use the 4S11 star quad for speaker cables. Picked them up from RAM Electronics with WBT locking bananas for about 200 bucks/9 ft pair. Very pleased with them between by Stratos and Loreleis. Have not tried their mic cable for IC's but all the Canare that I have tried has been quite nice.

Mic cable has long been known to be good IC cabling.  It is what I am using now.  It has to be measureably low in capacitance and inductance for the sensitive mic signal which is low and required to run a long run.  So it is perfect for what we need for good audiophile IC's.

This is where economies of scale provide hi-end product at a low-end price.

Hi,

Which Daton Mike cable are you using? The single wire or double wire stuff?

I would of used both internal wires but the RCA things I bought only had one solder point so using the outside shielding was easiest with one internal for signal.

Hi, The link that you gave shows search not found. I do understand which cable you used, the double wired and shield Probably could have twisted the two bare ends of the wires together . Glad it worked out for you.

I have pro-sound ICs made by Mogami. $13 and change for 3ft. from Musicians Friend. Mogami 2965 75ohm cable OFC copper signal and shield with decent, over-molded gold-plated RCAs. Split them for 2 coax SPDIF cables. The cable is light, shielded and doesn't yank my Paradisea DAC or KingRex amp off the stand...FWIW a good buy...good performance...plug and play. The cable is available from svideo.com for 84 cents a foot for DIYers.
