Rotary switch too long

I'm building a Bugle Pro.  Everything arrived yesterday from Hagerman tech and Digikey.  Yay!

The rotary switches are the right part number, but they stick out about 1.5 inches too far from the front panel.  Is this common?  Can they be cut down to size?

I have cut a number of rotary switches down to size.  Luckily, I have never made any too short.  I suggest cutting in increments and testing with your preferred knob.

Better too long than too short :D

I cut mine with a Dremel and a cutting disk, but I suppose any saw will do.

Done.  I used a cheap hacksaw.  Took all of 5 minutes, including attaching the blade to the hacksaw.  Probably the easiest step in the whole process.  Thanks again for the help!
