Best shipping-CAN to US?
« on: 15 Dec 2007, 02:49 am »
Hi Guys.  Any recommendations for shipping a Canadian speaker to USA without UPS-style import/customs 'brokerage' fee BS.  It is my understanding that there should be no duty on Canadian products(NAFTA.)

If you use UPS, you will not be charged duty fees due to NAFTA, but you will have to pay UPS, who in turn will pay a broker to fill in quite simply paper work for the importation.  It should not be excessive unless the value of the product in question is quite high.  If the speakers are small and compact, you can do Canadian post...there must be a limitation in the size of package.

Someone else I know sent me a pair of huge Onken cabinets that weighted 120 lbs each on two large boxes that was packed by some commercial packer and the packer arranged to send it from Vancouver to NYC via DHL trucking....the packing and shipping cost about $150-I call that really cheap for what was delivered without ANY damage.

Thanks for the reply.  Canadian post would be best for smallish speakers?

I am sure that Canadian Post will take small packages as the US post office does, but I am not aware of the size limitations.  Remember that when it surpasses a certain size, it is best just to send it through the usual commercial routes.  Also keep in mind the weight.

I imported about 4 pairs of speakers from Canada, all of them were large and 3 of the pairs were through UPS.  None were damaged, but remember packing....Thick styrofoam packaging is best with large items.

I've stopped using UPS for a number of reasons (brokerage fees being one of them). I prefer to use Canada Post / USPS.
