FYI: No mention of AVA or Van Alstine on exhibitors list on RMAF website. Salk is there.

Just purchased airline tickets, $148 round trip from Chicago! American. :singing: Really looking forward to meeting you Frank and now that my electronics are set, finally hearing the Salk's driven by that equipment. There are a couple of other speaks I want to check out too, and hopfully meeting some of the other characters on the circle.

See you there,

Marty

Frank,

Will you have your new headphone project ready for RMAF?

New headphone project?  What new headphone project?

All of our preamplifiers have excellent headphone amplifier circuits buit in at no extra cost.  Why would our clients need a separate headphone amplifier?

Frank,
Speaking of headphone amps; do the T8 and Ultra have the same headphone amp? The Ultra description says that you "... designed a new headphone driver circuit to match the performance of the line stage."  Can you elaborate? How does it differ from the T8 and other preamps?
Thanks,
Ron

Same headphone amp in all the preamps, a very fast unity gain buffer after the line stage that simply isolates the line outputs from the low impedance of the headphones.  The line buffer is the same in all, the line stage itself differs obviously. Headphone performance is very respectable in all.

A separate headphone amp is very nice to have if one has a standalone CD/Universal Player in one's office that is not equipped with nice AVA gear.  I built an interesting headphone amp, SOHA, a tube/opamp hybrid I discovered on headwize.com.  Project outlined here:  http://headwize.com/projects/cavalli2_prj.php

Headwize, and headfi.org, both have lots of interesting information about headphones, headphone amps, etc.  They are very active communities, and with the SOHA project, was a truly international effort with design and input from US, Europe, South America and boards fabricated by an individual in Beijing!  Support for construction effort also from the community.
