Nicely done.  I really like what you did with the wraparound panel look around the screen.  Who says you can't make treatments look nice...

Thanks Bryan.

The side 1st reflection absorbers and the rear bass trap are 4' tall and 12" above the ground, so the overall height is 60". I extended that to the front absorbers that wrap around the screen. I like this in that it helps keeps the area around the screen black (which of course increases perceived contrast) and uniform (so the look is consistent). It also means I can go with just about any speaker combination up front (towers, LCRs, monitors, etc) provided the L&Rs are less than 60" tall and the center is less than 30" tall. Come upgrade time the flexibility will be key.

I think the treatments are great.  My only complaint has to do with the wall coloring.  Who chose that coloring and why?  I'm just wondering because I can't look at it on the computer screen; based on what I see on the screen, I couldn't go in that room for more than a few minutes.   However, computer screen views can be very deceiving.  Do you like that color palette?

I take it you're referring to the stripes (and in particular the non-beige one). It's called "suede leather". Yeah, your monitor's color rendition is probably pretty accurate. I wanted something a bit different and interesting. The combo definitely looked better in samples than on the wall, but it took so much effort, I didn't want to change it after I was done painting. I think it also looks a lot better in person. Something to think about, too, is that it wouldn't be fun (for non-videophiles) to be in the room if all the walls were dark. To each his own. The one thing that I really contemplated changing was the aqua fabric. Even I think it's too much, but my wife actually talked me out of changing it to black. The couch was moved from another room since it was no longer needed in the original location (after the acoustic treatments were finished I might add), so that's why it's color doesn't quite fit the ensemble. It's color wasn't my first choice, especially with the aqua traps, but it grows on you in person. The blue looks really sharp without the aqua nearby. Interestingly enough, I found a blue paint that matches the couch beautifully. I have lot's of extra fabric so I'll probably end up changing the three panels so they are the same as the rest. If we make the change, and I have the time and inclination, I may change the "suede leather" to that blue. We'll see. Since the absorbers would have to be pulled off the wall to change the fabric, it would be pretty easy to repaint at the same time. Couple that with hiding the cables and painting all the trim/baseboard black and the room would look pretty good. As it is, there really is too much going on. We were thinking about painting a few accent areas blue in the room with the other couch... I may just have to buy a little extra paint .

I think the suede leather looks ok, but the aqua seems a little too faded.

And, no, it wasn't a conference of the seedy variety :nono:... it was for eyecare professionals.

That's great eyecare, I'd say!

Well...

After spending more time in the room... I like it the way it is. I was planning on at least changing the aqua to black, but my wife bought a bunch of aqua and blue accessories (masculine ones... thank God!) and it certainly helps pull the room together. For now it'll stay as is. BTW, it definitely is much easier on the eyes while actually in the room. We'll get some nice brown recliners instead of the lawn chairs, throw on some pillows that are brown, blue and aqua and call it a day. Oh yeah, I'll also paint the trim black.

Well, I've done a little more work. I painted the trim around the main door and IB subwoofer black; same for the baseboards. I also recovered the right and left first reflection absorbers in black cloth; same for the giant bass trap behind the couch. It looks a little better, though I'm still not a big fan of the color of the stripes. The flash from the camera really accentuates the difference between them and the ceiling and front wall. It looks much better in person. It's good enough for now.

The next task will be to replace the lawn chairs (!) and rack holding my gear. I've already picked out the chairs and matching shelf. It's 8 feet wide and 15" tall. That'll be perfect for being under the room treatments at the front. The CC will be placed on a short stand above the shelf so it's just below the screen but still in front of the room treatments. After that, the only thing left to tackle cosmetically is the stripes. Since they look better in person, I don't know if it's worth the effort... I'd rather listen to music and enjoy movies!
