MONO EXTREMES coming today
« on: 25 Jul 2007, 04:07 pm »

Yea After a months wait FedEx is supposed to deliver my Mono's today to bad i work second shift and wont be  home to 12:30 to late to play with them Don't want to piss SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED off, lol, Should i break them in using my Rotel Pre amp or should i just go for it with my tube Rogue Magnum 99 and don't worry about the tube life Im sure the Rogue Mag 99 with the Mono's even breaking in will be beter sounding than the Rotel  + Mono's

I would definitely use the rotel...why waste good tubes for breakin, unless you'll be there listening during the break in..but if you're at work, use the Rotel...

Congrats, you'll love them!!!!

Ed, perhaps consider breaking them in with the Rotel preamp for 400 hours or so, then subsequently insert the Rogue pre and hear the none-too-subtle difference. I note that when I burned in my pair of monos, I even used an older dual-well cassette deck for over 90% of a relatively non-stop 400 hour period (that equates to roughly seventeen (24/7) days).

Regardless, enjoy your new gear, and happy listening!

Put the Extreme's in with whatever you will be using full time and enjoy the process. One day, you'll be listening, and a whole new world of detail and rightness will just appear. I put my SE's in, and just used them. I didn't keep track of how long they had played, or even how long they had been on. I just listened. They sounded good right away, and as time passed, they got better, until one day, boom, they were done. I had friends over for dinner, was in the kitchen, and my friend was listening to something, when I heard a change. Every note was clearer, better, more like music. I rushed into the room, sat down, and was amazed at how much better they sounded. My girlfriend was outside on the patio, and came inside and asked what happened. Enjoy the ride, it's fun.

Ok. If this is one of the live works from Barber wait for about 2 or 3 weeks after break in and give it a listen again. You're in for a shock. :) Out of the box the bass won't be nearly as deep and the vocals won't knock you out but half way through break in things will open up!

when you plug them in, it will take a solid 3 1/2 days to get pretty good sound out of them. But it will take 4 to 5 days for the system to fully charge. Plan on about 400 hours for a total break in. I broke mine in with a B&K solid state tune-preamp playing 24/7 for about three weeks. Along the way I swaped preamps and a cd player to see what kind of progress I was getting.

Break in, Break in, Break in,  LOL these are so far above my Rotel 991. The mono's  sounded better right out of the box, and i really had no complants with the Rotel other than I was looking to move up the food chain in the audio circle.
