need help w/ 3way xover values
« on: 24 Jul 2007, 07:00 pm »
Hey guys,
I am putting together some speakers for a friend for his dance studio. Really this is sort of a 4 way setup. The sub may or may not be added later. I have all the drivers hooked up to my furman tunable crossover and found the sweet spot of the three drivers. If I wanted to mimic what I have going it is 24db linkwitz but I dont mind if it isnt that..but I definitely need it to be more than just a first order. The cross points are 3000 and 6000hz. My crossover calculator doesnt seem to want to do this and I keep getting error codes. Can someone help me out here? I plan on using this pc board and there are some specs but some of the values are not listed.

thanks, Beat

OH yeah,
my problem is where the woofer (functioning as mid woof) cuts and the upper mid picks up. I am trying to protect the mid horn which is safe after 2000 but the mid woof makes great vocals up to 3000. Much nicer than the horn mid. Are ya trackin with me?

thanks again, Beat

The first line in the link you showed says "12dB crossover" ... I thought you wanted 24dB?

Do yourself a favour ... go lookee here:
http://sound.westhost.com/project09.htm

Rod sells you the PCB(s) for this 24dB L-R XO (2 boards for stereo 3-way) and supplies a component calculator - 3KHz and 6KHz values are easily calculated ... however, you need to understand that a midrange bandpass filter of only 1 octave (3K-6KHz) is highly undesirable.  1.5K-6KHz would be acceptable ... 1.5K to 8KHz would be better - ie. 2 octaves, minimum.

Andy
