Changed the step-up last night to 350 Ohm 1:9 which is just right for my .3 mV Micro-Ace cart and got a pic while it was open.

Been swapping the rectifier back and forth from Sylvania 5Y3 to Bugle Boy 5AR4. I liked the 5AR4 previously with the stock resistors but now with the Tantalum input and and Kiwame grid stoppers in the mix (thank you, Steve Brown) I think I prefer the 5Y3. Surprising to me how much difference there is.

Gonna take delivery of  a Joule Electra LA-75 pre-amp next week which is supposed to be warmer-sounding than the ARC LS-1 so we'll have to see what tubes go well with that.

Now it's time to finish the Piccolo.

Looks really good.  You had lots of room inside to work!  Please post comparisons between the Piccolo and the Cinemag-Cornet.  I am still on the fence deciding.  Thanks.  Nice work!!

Awesome!  Any pic showing the top?  What are the dimensions of the box?  I am thinking of re-doing my Cornet 2 with a Silver chassis which is more robust and heavier.  Your solution will serve as an inspiration!

Thanks for sharing the pic!

Abe

Sorry about the fuzzy pic; I just got home from work and have only had one beer.

Just a $25 10x17 Hammond steel box. If you line it with copper don't worry about heavy!

One word of caution about the EAR Isoloss sandwich mounts: they're so elastic it's almost impossible to push the tubes in w/o supporting the board which means taking the bottom off each time you swap. I'm going to fasten some wooden block supports about 1/4" shy of the bottom of the board to eliminate the hassle.

I drilled the Piccolo box this morning and should have it ready tomorrow nite.

Stay tuned.

What kind of copper did you use to line the case?

The shiny kind!

Seriously, it's just 34 ga sheet I got at Hobby Lobby. I didn't know whether to line the box or press a horsy into it with a popsicle stick. It was difficult to get the corners right w/o gaps, snipping a '45', so I made corner pieces to fit over them. The Microsorb damping compound made application really easy but I ran out so the bottom plate has the copper contact glued on.

Your speakers look better than commercial. Arvo Part? I love Part? What do you call the sub, the other Part? I wish I could hear what you've got there. Anywhere near Central Ohio?

I just ordered a set of octal Aikido boards from John for a linestage. Can't wait.
