Well my wife said it was finally time to sell off some extra gear.  This used to be my main system amp.  It has by far the blackest background, no overhang/bloated notes and razor sharp detail I've heard.  Hypex rates the UCD400 modules at 250 into 8ohms and 400 into 4ohms.  Its being fed by an oversized (1000va) shielded and screened piltron transformer.  I had NO transformer buzz at all even straight out of a wall socket.  This amp will drive almost anything.  I was using it to drive a pair of Magnepan 3.6 and it never seemed to break a sweat.  I really loved the detail, but I just wanted a bit more warmth.

Hypex softstart module
Hypex Highgrade power supply
2 Hypex UCD400AD modules
2 S&B TX102 transformer volume controls (1 per channel)
Shallco 23 position switch (for volume)
Shallco select switch
3 sets of vampire copper rca jacks
Eichmann cable pods (low mass binding posts)
wired internally with the same wire as the transformer uses

3 inputs (2 braided and 1 just twisted as an experiment).  I didn't move the switch lock pin so it will click past 3, but no sound of course.

I did NOT wire up a mute, because I didn't want to waste any of the transformer taps.

Just for comparison a prebuilt UCD400AD could run you over $1700.  Just the raw S&B tx would run over $600 and the switches and jacks aren't bargin bin items.  There is a LOT of labor involved in the TVC assembly and its all done here already so its either saving you a lot of time or $.

I'll see it for pretty much parts cost, but as you can see from the part lists I didn't really skimp on the parts.  $1850 via paypal or USPS money order with free continental US shipping.  I don't charge paypal fees.  Obviously I don't have original boxes, but I will pack it VERY well (may have it professionally done on my $).

Sounds like a fine amplifier and the finish looks sweet. The combination of the UCD/S&B is unique, but that's what makes this hobby fun.

Best of luck in your sale, your asking price is extremely low! :thumb:

Thanks for the bump and well wishes.

Forgot to mention that I use the same userid everywhere so samplesj has my ebay and audiogon feedback.  They are not all just purchases either.  I don't flip gear as fast as some people, but I've still sold a bit.

I'm the original owner/builder and this is a non-smoking house.

I'm sure someone will recognize the chassis as being from the group buy a few years back, but this is not the same parts so don't assume I've just jacked up the price.  I've added quite a bit (better rca jacks, better binding posts, softstart).  I also replaced the noisy junky Avel transformer with a top shelf Piltron.

I'll try to open it up and get some better rear shots and layout pictures later this week.

I'm also going to throw a bit of a wrinkle into this sale.  I replaced this in my Maggie system with a Butler TDB-2250 because I wanted more warmth.  When I just switched the UCD for the Butler and used the Benchmark's volume control I did get more warmth.  But now that I've finished reworking my entire main system with tubed gear I realized I hadn't listened to it lately.  I decided to listen to it again yesterday (TVC at full volume so it wasn't in the picture).  With the smoother tube DAC and pre I can't decide which I like better.  They are very close.  The Butler has a bit more body, but the UCD has more clarity.  So what I'm going to do is list the butler as soon as I can get pictures taken and uploaded.  They are both fine amps and I'm happy with both so I'll just see which sells first.

Damaged in shipping, I've parted it out so no longer for sale.  I'll be listing the transformers later.
