Hi,

I just updated JYK's Profile Page (included in the A.C.A. pages). Click http://aca.gr/pop_jyk.htm or the picture below, to go there...

Some may agree, some may disagree with this digital - horns match, but nobody can deny that this is an impressive system - room to look at...

Enjoy

Jean-Yves is living in the South of France. He is 47 years old, married with 4 sons. He works in mass marketing.

Does that mean this system was built on spam money!?

"...nobody can deny that this is an impressive system - room to look at..."

I'm not sure how "impressive" would be defined, but I personally think it's nearly as gaudy as Chuck Josephson's "system". The Avantgarde system appeals more to me aesthetically

Christos,
the picture is part of Avantgarde's advertisement for the Basshorns--
http://www.avantgarde-usa.com/basshorns.html

The clean, contemporary lines of the Avantgarde pic appeal to me much more than the ornate setting you featured.  If I were to nit-pick the Basshorn "look,"  I would even like less chrome/aluminum.

Active systems not advertisements

Yes but I like to deal with active systems (with their pros and cons) and not with advertisements (... or water melons!!!)  :nono:

Cheers

Oooh that's a low blow, Tonto!  Comparing him to Chuck - *ouch!*

It's always fascinating to me to see pictures of what people with seemingly endless supplies of money do with their wealth.  It's also kinda sad because as a lower-income schlub you sit and look at these outrageous rigs and think, "geez, this guy's got more money than I can even imagine and he's still not happy with the damn thing.  Changing this and that..."  Kinda makes the whole pursuit of hifi seem like a pointless exercise in spending money. :(  It's like, there IS no end to it.  No matter how much money you pour into the thing you'll go to your grave thinking to yourself "oh, if I could just try this amp, or this cable..." Have any of these guys not changed something in their system for years? Doesn't anyone of these uber-wealthy guys ever think, "Damn, this is as good as it gets!  This sounds freaking AWESOME!  I'm DONE!"

I KNOW for a fact that there's 1000 cans of Great Stuff squirted into that coffered ceiling! :D  (Of course, in France it's referred to as "Le Stouffee de Puissance" or "Royale with Cheese".)

And let's not forget - those SCSI speaker cables are just swinging there in the breeze, totally undamped!  I bet that system sounds lousy as a result! (joke)

Come-on Gentlemen!!!

With all my respect, please do not let the general anti-French feeling in the U.S. (due to the recent War) disturb your views.  :nono:

I suggest, if you are more interested, to pay him a visit your self and then make your sarcastic comments.

I did not visit his place (we have 24 International High End Profiles in the Club's web-site at http://aca.gr/system_world_a.htm - JYK included) but I did not make any listening comments in my post either ...

I can just state that he receives the highest circulation among all Audiophiles Pages hosted, but if you will ask my personal preference, I place my self far away from anything in Audio called digital...

Cheers

Christos,
my own opinion has nothing to do with him being French: it has to do with the fact that the room is ugly, overdone and garish.
I doubt you even understand my reference to Great Stuff since you seem to only post here to announce your newsletter: a well-informed visitor would have realized that was just a joke to nathan and other insiders.

Nah, I don't think that has anything to do with it.  I couldn't care less where the guy's from.  I have WAY more Anti-American feelings than French anyway, cause I live here!

For the record, my question about "spam money" was serious!  I am going to tell myself that since skaloumbakas took this as an absurd joke this means that the owner is of course NOT a spammer.  I will sleep better tonight if I believe that to be the case. :P

I don't think it's ugly at all.  A bit garish perhaps, but if you've got a monstrous rig like that you might as well go all out, right?  This is what I would call a truly eccentric system, just in a far different flavor than Mr. Josephon's.  And hoo boy would I give my eye teeth to see Chuck in there with all the other fellas on skaloumbakas' site!  Ahh, but let us not dwell on old jokes for which there is no longer any reference...

He he, funny stuff Tonto!

Nathanm, you're right of course. As "reasonably" well-off human beings, (after all, if you CAN afford a stereo system -a NON necessity- you're doing pretty well) I gotta admit I get a sick feeling when I see all this excess. Hey, it's a free world, (kinda - sorta , not really, not at ALL!) :D one can spend their money as they please (let's hope it's not spam money, or i'll be traveling to France to kick his ass from here to the moon (of Pluto!)

I agree, it's irrelevant that the fellow is in France. I find it gaudy in the extreme; Liberace might be right at home. It's more of a freak show than anything else.
