Audyssey Room Equalization Unit

Does anybody have any first hand information as to how effective this equalizer is? One intriguing thing from their website is that this unit has 8 inputs and you apparently can use six for 5.1 surround and the other two for 2 channel. Talk about versatility! It also appears they only sell through distributors. I emailed asking for the nearest one to me but never got an answer. Strange, maybe they are building them for fun and are not interested in selling any!

I had the same experience of no reply, but I wrote the first day I heard about it, must be almost a year now.

I have only read about it in Kalman's column. Great price, and if it does what he says it should be very popular 'tweek.' Tact gives me a headache in my asymmetrical room. I hope this is less unnatural sounding. The math appears to be quite significant.

Can't figure why any firm would spend years developing a product, set up a website to promote it, tantalize prospective customers to a frenzy and then not tell anyone how and where they can buy it! Sure is a bizarre business model.   :nono:

I contacted them shortly after Kal's review and received a reply within a day. I did express my annoyance of being dependent upon an installer. I think it's a great product and would buy one if the installer/dealer was removed from the equation. They are obviously targeting a different market.

For context of what markets they are initially addressing -

with a link to the audissey website so folks can actually figure out what you're talking about.

And who could blame them? See below

Well, that wagging finger is a good indication of why Audeyssey wouldn't want anything to do with this audiophile market. Why would they want to deal with Bob, you or me? We're a minuscule market in comparison to the 'high end' HT theater receiver, and professional install market, and the cost of providing support for the likes of us simply is not worth it compared to their targeted markets.
It looks like they have an excellent business model,

Your right... the audiophile market is small and meaningless in the scheme of consumer electronics.   I think most of the people who play in this market do so because they are audiophiles to begin with, not because of the business prospects.

If you are a customer who wishes to buy the Audyssey Sound Equalizer and want to locate a registered Audyssey Installer in your area, please contact us at installer@audyssey.com  .

Paul,

I too share your frustration with their business model. What is good for Audyssey isn't good for me.
This page -

has links, on the right hand side, to the various products that incorporate their technology.

I would love to upgrade my Denon 3805 to the Denon AVR-4306 with the built in Audyssey MultEq Auto-Setup/Room Eq

What do you think of the Audyssey on the 3805?

I found that the Auto EQ function on my 3805 was worthless and came up with screwy configurations.
