Sub set up with AV123 Subwoofer Test Tone CD
« on: 9 Jun 2007, 06:47 pm »
Hello all
I am trying to set up my sub using the AV123 Subwoofer Test Tone CD
I first set the sub levels with test tone from my Denon 3805
Next I did what the directions said and set the volume to 60Db with track 1 Pink noise
Next it said I should get SPL reading around 80 db wit track 2-38  16-120 Hz
I am only getting readings from 62 DB to 72 Db
I guess its close to  flat now but should I get more like 80 Db on the spl  like the directions say ?

what readings are you getting from the other frequencies?
better yet, post your readings.

If you are getting 80db readings at the other frequencies then those (38 and 120) are nulls (room nodes canceling each other out).

what sub are you using?

IF you are using the RadioShack SPL meter bear in mind that the current model have a +/- 10dB tolerance... you may need to read this

Does either sub have a parametric eq in it?

On the first look it seems you need to turn them down just a bit.
What meter are you using as there are corrections for the lower frequencies.

I only have one sub FOR NOW next one comes in a few weeks  :thumb:
The SUb does have EQ but I use the velo for EQ
The Velodyne SMS-1 is the EQ
I am using the old RS SPL not the new one

Put your eq at 40 and turn down 10db.  Take a measurement and let us know.
