PMC OB1
« on: 8 Jun 2007, 02:36 pm »
I would like opinions on the PMC OB1, their is a pair currently listed on Audiogon, almost new in walnut finish for $3500., which seems like a very good buy. My electronics are Thule PA350B amp and Thule PR150 pre amp. My listening room is 12' x 16' with a 10' ceiling. Thank you in advance.

IMO these are the benchmark in the PMC line of floorstanders that separates the already good FB1's from the larger ones. The OB1's will fit just nicely in a room of your dimensions with their small footprint unlike the larger IB1's that would eventually need bigger space. In other words, the OB1's are about the largest speakers in the PMC line that you may consider in a room of your size. PMC speakers need no introduction as they have proved themselves being used in recording studios and in professional applications.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with Thule electronics so I cannot comment on how well they would integrate.

I am biased as I own PMC speakers. I have to admit I love them to bits though.

Well, I might be able to help.  I have among so much hardware owned Thule PA350B amp and Thule PR150 pre amp.  Sold and bought Bryston, for one reason--If I want colour I will add it downstream.  The OB1's will be REVEALING with your pre-amp/amp combination and you will either love them more-or less.  In my more than humble opinion you will love them MORE.  But the minor artifacts that (with my ears) heard with your very educated choice of amp and pre-amp will translate to MORE detail-AND you will no longer be searching for speakers.  The OB1's are so neutral-once you accept the transmision line bass, that you can concentrate on your source.  Go for the Jolida 100A, and its available mods or the AH! either way you are off to a great start.

Oh, and at $3500 just a dollar for dollar treat.  Inspect them, and if they pass-BUY.
