Got my iMod! You rock Vinnie!!
« on: 10 May 2007, 12:22 pm »
Got my iMod in a couple days ago! Came very fast and everything was in mint condition! Have only managed to listen to around 5 minutes of it so far, since I'm in the process of re-ripping my music to flac and then transferring them over to the iMod. What I *DID* hear though sounded very very good!

OK onto my questions:

1)Vinnie....which version of Rockbox are you using? Infact, can you please post a direct link to the version you're using? I downloaded some version off the official site but I'm not sure if it's the right one or not. It just said "iPod".

2)When using rockbox, where do I go to see the total amount of hours and minutes I've put into the iMod altogether?

3)Regarding burn-in....I have the iMod connected to my Yamaha home theater receiver. If I leave the iMod running on repeat, and leave the receiver turned on, will this help burn in the iMod? Does it matter how low or high I have the volume turned to? Does it matter if my headphones are plugged into the jack or not? Does it matter if there are any speakers connected to the receiver or not?

4)Any word from Seagate on their 120Gb drive? :)

5)I bought a 6ft cable from "Signal Cable". What are your thoughts on them?

6)Just out of curiousity, why are you re-selling the iMod via ALO? Why aren't
you selling direct anymore?

Thanks in advance :D

Got up to the 150hr mark today! Was listening to the extended remix of "High" by The Cure and the soundstage seemed to open up a bit more. It's at home right now burning in on my Yamaha receiver and by the time I get back it should be at around the 175hr mark. Only a few more hours until 200hrs!! :thumb:

Vinnie quick question. Which is more effective for burn-in when the iMod is connected to a home theater receiver....having a pair of headphones plugged in and the volume turned down, or having no headphones plugged in but having the volume turned up moderately? Or does neither matter?

With the iMod, you cannot adjust the volume... it is a fixed output line out.

If your headphones have a built-in volume control on the headphone cable, you can plug in your headphones and make sure the volume is not maxed out.  This will be a big enough load that will speed up the burn-in process.

The burn-in process time really depends on the load.  For example, if the input impedance of your amp is 100k, you'll get 10x the current flow if it was instead 10k.  At 10x the current flow, you can expect a much faster burn-in.

I am no longer using Rockbox on either my 4G or 5G iMods... I am using Apple Firmware and WAV files only.  The main reason is because with the Apple Firmware and WAV files, I can easily transfer files to/from my modded Olive Music Server and the iMod.

I'm not sure about this one.

4)Any word from Seagate on their 120Gb drive?

Seagate, Samsung, and Toshiba are claiming to come out with a 120GB drive this year... still waiting for it to hit the market.  However, it sounds like these will only feature ZIF connectors, so they will not be able to be used in the 4G iMod.  Only the 5G/5.5G iMods use the ZIF connector drives.

I cannot comment because I am not familiar with their products

ALO purchased all the 4th Gen, 60GB iMods that I had in stock.  However, I still am modding the 4th Gen iPods (user supplied iPods) and am now modding the 5G/5.5G iPods, as mentioned on the iMod website.

Best regards,

Vinnie
